We are interested in wargaming a 28mm battalion level scenario from The Siege of Port Arthur and are interested in the type of Russian fortifications protecting Port Arthur. There appears to be little or no information available in English on the appearance of both permanent stone forts, earthworks and trenches. Any help, please? We intend to use Tsuba Miniatures 28mm figures sculpted by Paul Hicks. link |

Google Port Arthur Fortifications and click images Better still Google Порт-Артур укреплений and then click images You will find this useful translate.google.com/#ru/en Sadly googling ポートアーサーの要塞 doesn't return any decent images |

Shedman, Many thanks. We have a number of photographs of Port Arthur but the quality of image from the Russian site you have suggested is far superior and hugely interesting. We are obliged D'Ewell EDIT: Tremendous find. |

Look out for a book on the RJW by E. Ashmead-Bartlett he was a war correspondent with the Times and was in Port Arthur throughout the seige. Ashmead-Bartlett, E., Port Arthur, the Siege and Capitulation, London, 1906 His later book – "The Passing of the Shereefian Empire" is just excellent about pre-WW1 Morocco, he refers to his time in Port Arthur with other correspondents quite a bit. I found copies of both quite cheap (scanned re-prints) on abebooks.com |
