I'm finally finished with the first unit! I've got another 60+ more figures to paint, but I'm going to take a break for now I think :) I'll resurrect this thread when I do!

In the mean time, check out more pictures on my site in my Ancients Persians gallery:

They are just great. I love the shot of them 'battling' the Greeks. I for one will be referring to you for Persian clothing inspiration. Based for Impetus?

Very nicely done. I do admire their faces, eyes and all! I have begun painting some of these chaps and found the spearmen can end up in odd poses, those with their legs further apart seem to work better.

I used bowcases from the cavalry – adds variety as do spare cavalry bow arms.

Shame WGF did not make any trumpeters or other command figures.

I'm not a great fan of the WF figures, but your paint job is absolutely stunning!

Beautifully done – I especially like the purples, which don't look too rich. I wasn't initially a fan of the WGF figures but you have made me look at them again in a new light.

Totally inspires me to get to work painting my Persians!

Very nice work. I do primarily 15mm ancients but the 28's do look nice when well painted.

Fantastic looking unit.

Will have to give 10 out of 10 for painting and presentation. Very colouful and yet not overly somehow. Good size unit ? Impetus.
I think the muted yellow and slpashes of basic browns on head gear etc prevents colours that stand out without being too busy on the eye. Would agree on being first stop for painting guide for Persian armies. ? what colour of yellow being used.

Those are hot. Work on the faces is especially nice.

Thanks a lot for the kind words guys! It was a lot of fun seeing them come together myself…

These guys are the start of a Persian army for the Kings of War Historical Ancient Combat [unofficial] expansion ( link ) to Mantic Games' Kings of War rules. I really enjoy playing it, not too fiddly rules-wise.

As for the yellow… it's a self-mixed mish mash :)

Thanks again,
n.
