Here is the Skytrex BRDM, both the recon version and the AT5 equipped AT missile vehicle. The Skytrex models have excellent casting quality. They are very plain but very sharp. They make many variants of the BRDM and BTR. Nice stuff for 60's, 70's, or 80's action.

Thanks

A nice simple but clean cast from Skytrex's.

Thanks for the review.

With their 20% sale on I have just splurged on a slack handful of Chally 1's, T72, BTR's and Bimps, and effectively got them post free!

Now if QRF will just crack out their Cold War British Infantry, my 'Ninety Nine Red Balloons' project is on!

Of course you can get these from Old Glory -Both US and UK- packed in 3s including the charlies you can also get modern stuff that Skytex don't do On average the 3 packs are cheaper than singles- 3 challengers will cost you £19.00 GBP- thats the normal price-
Keep an eye out for our future moderns releases – inc some 1980s infantry for the Falklands War.

Thanks will bear that in mind – Yes I've been hanging out for the SLR Brit infantry like a dog in the desert….

Skytrex's website states that they're casting BTR60s in resin to keep the price down. Has anyone seen these in resin?

I can answer this myself having opened up a batch last night. The detail on the hull is good and the model required little cleaning up so as good as the metal models I've got (the turret is metal), except when you get to the bottom of the hull. There is no daylight under the vehicle and the lump of resin underneath extends under the wheels so that they sit on a small plinth about 1mm (on some it was a jagged 5mm) thick. Skytrex have tried to hide the resin under the hull but you don't get the model shown on their website. I'm not sure how to paint this – black would make sense but the tyres are black. A resin hull with separate metal wheels would have been better. The metal stuff I got from Skytrex is top of the Premier League, unfortunately this one is trying to get out of the Championship.

Yikes Skytrex have just hiked all their prices by 50%!!

I just received some BRDM-2s and a BRDM-2 RKh that had been delayed from an earlier order and yes, they are now in resin. I don't mind resin models, as I'm well-used to FoW models and like their solid resin trucks.

However, the solid resin block under these seems to be far more obtrusive and obvious than the FoW models – I think it needs more under-cutting, like the FoW models. They're also sitting on top of a 3-4mm resin 'plinth', which is annoying. It would have been the work of a moment to machine-sand this off in their workshop, but they haven't, which is a pain, as it's going to be a Bleeped text to sand off by hand.

There is also some slight loss of detail on the model itself – one of the panels on the glacis has turned into a blob and the turret-lug no longer fits the hole.

Having just looked at their website, I see that they have indeed now increased their prices to £9.00 GBP per BRDM. I think they were previously £6.50 GBP? Thankfully I ordered these before the prices went up. There is a note on the website saying that BTR-60s and BRDMs are being produced in resin to reduce costs… So why the whopping price-hike?!

Sorry Skytrex, I've always loved your products and have appreciated the superlative modelling and casting, which has always been better than the casting of the same models at Old Glory. However, as I can buy the same models at Old Glory (or equivalents from QRF) for considerably less AND they still make them in metal, I think that you may just have lost a customer.

I concur! I got some BTR-60s from Skytrex in their previous sale and the new resin models are a real pain to make acceptable.

You done a good job with these. I settled for sanding down the plinths with very coarse sandpaper. They turned out OK.
