I know it is all a matter of which rules you use, but I was thinking of getting into 6mm ACW and was wondering if it would be better to mount the infantry figures in two ranks per stand or a single file stand? I am thankful for your help in the matter.

If you're going for 6mm for looks, as opposed to saving space, then I would fit as many of the little Bleeped texts on a base as you can.

I have mounted mine (H&R) in two lines on a 3/4 by 1/2 inch base. 2-3 cav (one line) on a 3/4 by 3/4 inch base. Each gun and 4 crew on a 3/4 by 3/4 inch base. Same for mounted officers.

This offers flexible tactical formation depiction and my roads and bridges can remain just 3/4 to 1 inch wide. The units look better moving down the roads than a base that is 40 to 60 mm wide without having to make additional stands consiting of depicting the same unit in column…then switching to another stand when they deploy. (Of course, it could prompt a game mechanic where changing formation (and swapping stands) could take 1/2 or 1 entire move to complete. This forces the accounting of time formation changes take, but IMHO, not worth the effort just for the mechanic. Current methods seem sufficient to account for the time.)
