I've been impressed by the Osprey output of rules this year and wondered what I'd like to see from them next.

I like the fact that, Bolt Action and FoG aside, they've gone for some unusual subjects, with A World Aflame and Dux Bellorum being good examples.

…what would you like to see next in the paperback series of rules, apart from the ones that are already on the schedule?

..some WW2 or WW1 naval rules would be my choice.

The rules they put out tend to very nice looking products.

1)But it has been my experience that there is no index for the rules or poorly done.
2)More play testing is needed before publishing.

I really want them to do a great job at publishing rules.

Osprey are the publishers, not the editors or the rules authors. Any faults lie with the rules authors and editors.

Regarding playtesting, I can tell you it is quite extensive. My beef is that they tend to go in a certain direction even though it may be a bad idea. In other words, we are going to change such and such rule or lists. Please playtest it. If it works, it gets implemented. The problem is that what seems to work isn't necessarily a good idea from a historical perspective or a gaming one.

My idea of playtesting is to have real input. I get the feeling that much playtesting is to play and see if there are big complaints or not. There are a couple of changes to FoG that I don't care for but will live with as an example.

Anyway, not trying to hash sour grapes but just an observation. You can't please everyone to be sure :-)

To the topic at hand, I would say the glaring period that is missed is Lace Wars. They could overlap from the Great Northern Wars to the AWI as an example. Having said this, I will be playing Maurice more than likely instead :-)

DBA 3.0. That would be a prime candidate!

Ancientgamer is right as you can see on the rule books, there are several companies designing and formating the rules system. Foundry, Slitherine and Ambush ally are some of them.

I am not sure about the new series of wargames that Osprey is doing. From my conversations with them, Osprey has more input in the editing than the others.

Osprey does the printing, distribution and marketing of the Fields of Glory, Force of Force/ Tommorow War and now Bolt Action not the designing.

None. I have zero playing time with them.
