Anyway – I fell for the hype and bought it, bagged and all. It doesn't seem that different from the last WD I bought a couple of years ago – except the print has got HUGE. Probably more pictures than before. And what did I do ? Flicked through it, and put it down basically unread. You'd think I'd have learnt by now. |

More of the same, for more money. I'm holding out for the monthly hardback. |

The monthly hard back? Now you really are being cynical ;). I suppose you expect them to bring out hard-back Codex books now
Oh
they have
and for the super, fantastic price of £30.00 GBP-00
You really do have to admire their 'gung-ho' spirit! |

I got the iPad version, just to check it out. First WD I've bought in a couple of years. It hasn't really changed. Other than a few graphic bells and whistles, it's still just a big advertisement for the "GW hobby." At least the digital version won't waste a perfectly good tree. Maybe the hardcover edition will have pages made of Finecast! |

"An essential purchase for the Games Workshop hobbyist, every issue of White Dwarf showcases all aspects of the hobby and Games Workshop products" Now this is just big fat lie. Does the current White Dwarf cover things like; 40K Epic, Man-O-War, Gorka Morka etc
Does it have articles about: Ork Mad Boyz, Squats, Ork Flash Gitz etc
The answer to these is no and it hasn't had them for many, many years. What is does have is lots of pictures of their overpriced models though. White Dwarf has not been worth buying for nearly 12 years so given GW way of doing changes I doubt that it will be worth buying now. So my money is staying in my wallet. |

It has quite a lot on the new flying thingies for 40K. If you do 40K in 15mm (with non-GW figs obviously) then you could easily knock up these flyers (well the ork ones anyway) from early jet fighter kits – MiG 15's and MiG 17's, maybe Sabre Jets with a bit of hacking / extra blocky plasticard add ons and weapon pods stuck on everywhere. |

"Not to mention that in the case of GW they don't generate one iota of revenue from advertising" They don't sell advertising space, but the magazine is one enormous advertisement that generates them income. Much different than other magazines that are not being used to sell products for their publishers. |

I never buy a magazine I can't look inside |

I bought this (first time in a while), and it was quite readable. Pretty much a Chaos Space Marines issue, one article about Warhammer Fantasy, nothing about LotR. The interesting thing was that army of the month (CSM) got it's bum handed to it on a plate in the battle report (against White Scars Space Marines). I'll be cutting out the "How to paint
" pages and putting in my folder, but there's no real going back to re-read value. As the painting pages became one of the only reasons I bought it previously, don't think I'll get it again if it's wrapped up so I can't see what's in there. |

I'm with CooperSteve – if I can't check out the content before deciding whether or not to buy, I simply won't buy. In a way. I'm grateful to GW, as now I won't even waste a few minutes flicking through WD! |

Not to threadjack but I posted a comprehensive review on our blog: link Cheers, w. |

if I can't check out the content before deciding whether or not to buy It seems that this might have happened in some places as there are piles of GW bagged mags in my local shop whereas they used to sell quickly. |

I admit, I used to really enjoy WD..back in the late 90's. But that was a great time to be a GW gamer. Necromunda, Mordheim, Epic, Warhammer Quest, Fantasy, even some Space Hulk stuff still floating around. They had special wargear cards, vehicle datafaxes, Warhammer Quest scenarios, adventures
"how to" build showcases which showed you how to kitbash kits that GW didn't produce (old articles on how to convert WW1 tanks into space marine Land Raiders etc.) There was still plenty out outside influence, and general geeky gamer stuff. Now it's a huge advert for power creep, and "buy this! buy this! buy this!". The variety is gone. Leaving GW was the best decision I've made in the past 10 years of gaming. I'll still flip through their website if I'm trying to kitbash a model, but I just don't give them money anymore. As I've told other people
I liked GW better when it was broke, and run by geeks. |
