We played another game of Maurice last night, this time with both armies made up of figures from a Risk set.

Never fear, the Duchy of Sans-Couleur shall regroup under the banner of the Primer Prince!

Nice use of what you've got to get a game in, and a good read to boot. Thanks.

Yes I'm sure I would have fought better had my figures been primed….

An enjoyable game, thanks Alan for the sporting game and Caesar for umpiring so knowlegeably!

I liked the 1" base width convention. Good for smaller scale figures.

My very first "games" were in 1960 using the small lincoln logs as soldiers with cut-out weapons traced from the backsides of ceral boxees. After 50+ years still the most "fun" games of my life were those crude/simple Saturday afternoon encounters. Of course it might have had something to do with us being just 10 years old, too.

Nice report, and quite a colorful display on the gaming table! It was my first visit to your blog, and I enjoyed snooping around there, thanks for the post.

ha ha Thanks for the unpainted figures warning! Many wargamers are elderly and the shock could be fatal. :oP

There is a method in our madness with regard to the unpainted figures. Quite simply the era covered by Maurice is not one that any on our group have figures for. Neither were we totally sure that we wanted to game it – the rules were really what would make of break the deal. So we needed something that would give us a game with minimum investment in time and resources. Risk provided it. I do intend to paint those figures now, if only because we have enjoyed both of the Maurice games we played and want to take it further.
