I feel kinda cheated here. I was going to get a subscription through my LGS but was told that it would be better to get it through the company.

Not what I was hoping for:

link

If you all read the article in between the lines, we wont get a house in October or December…

"As such I have come up with a solution that means I am going to ask for your patience but reward you at the same time."

How am I being rewarded for actually getting involved with the subscription deal before it was sold out? I was under the impression (and told by your staff) this was a one time exclusive deal, and get it whilst you can, because once it was sold out, it was sold out.

I get that it's the best problem you can have, but to me the loyal customer who got on board when advertised and told several times "yeah we wont be making more" by your staff, then being told to wait two months for you to make more of the first run of houses so you can sell them to LGS's and such…is a little messed up.

So if I read this correctly, you reward the person who sat on the fence, and force those who got in from the get-go to wait. I don't see the reward it that at all.

On another note, I also notice that every time I inquire about the colors your team used to paint each house, the thread or post is deleted. I just want to improve the quality (which varies from house to house) of the product I ordered, and not play "guess that color" for a few hours.

Yeah….. now I am kind of peeved. I signed up for a subscription, and now they are breaking their end of the deal.

Do I get a refund? Can I break my commitment to buy if I want?

….a solution that means I am going to ask for your patience but reward you at the same time.

And what, pray-tell will be my reward for my unending patience in letting everyone else get what I thoughtfully subscribed to?

I'm catching loads of flak on the fow forums about my post…

9/10 of them are coming from the people who didn't subscribe.

VonTed13 Sep 2012 6:18 a.m. PST

This was to be expected though, a couple posts are a little annoyed as well.

Not the end of the world, but it is kind of annoying…. someone did have a good point. I also would expect quality control to suffer from the ramp up in production, BF does not do a very remarkable job in QC.

Every post I've made asking for the colors they used for their buildings has been nuked…

I just want to improve the quality of the one's I've gotten. They all look like they were painted very very quickly.

To those wanting houses and who haven't committed to the FOW subscription, I recommend that you look at the Landmark Normandy collection. Great buildings and a lot of variety. Peter Pig makes a few that I like as well but they come unpainted. You can see my collection of both at link

I have to admit to not being surprised by the way BF is acting. They are perfect in their own eyes and everything they do is just what their customers want.

As for the Landmark range, the are indeed good but they are not hollow which for Flames of War is something you really want. There are loads of alternatives to the BF range though and in the last year or so several companies have come out with some nice laser cut MDF building that really hit the mark.

The BF building range never excited me as it seems that there are actually only a limited number of basic components that are sold in different combinations with different names.

None of this is making me want to buy from BF at the moment.

More foot shooting by BF…

I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact they are now selling the houses through the retail chain. I just picked up the Calais house at my FLGS.

I think we'd need to hear what that "reward" will be for we can really judge how much of a "raw deal" might be. It could be something worth the delay like an additional "free" building perhaps.

VonTed13 Sep 2012 10:02 a.m. PST

How do the Landmark buildings match up size-wise? I know that Musket Miniature buildings are nearly a 100% match for size and would love to find others that work well.

NealSmith13 Sep 2012 10:41 a.m. PST

I think if they offered a free Bastogne Church as "reward" to the subscribers, I'd be happy. :)

Otherwise, it is a really screwed up situation they created. This whole thing has been handled in an extremely amateurish way.

Musket/Mark IV are good matches.

Von Ted, in the gallery link I provided above are some pictures with Command Decision and BF vehicles next to the Landmark buildings. In pic 11 there are 4 Landmark buildings with a Command Decision German staff car. In pic 36 next to Landmark buildings there is a Command Decision kubelwagen and Stug and a BF Famo. I think the Landmark buildings go great with Command Decision, BF, and Peter Pig. I also use them when I need buildings for my Napoleonics. In my Napoleonic gallery I used the Landmark village as background and I used the Landmark farm complex as a central feature of that gallery. As a point of reference, most my Napoleonic figures are Old Glory 15 but the collection includes Essex and Battle Honours as well. You can see the Landmark farm complex at link

Don't see what the fuss is as there are many many better asnd cheaper buildings out there….oh you want them prepainted .well welcome to BF's world !

If you really are that short of time there are prepaints from Crescent Root, JR minis and MBA and you do not have to wait for months. Guess they are not 'offical' BF tho……

PS I used to say 'offical' as a bit of sarcasm but now I guess it's true

NealSmith13 Sep 2012 3:51 p.m. PST

A painted building for $21 USD/$26 dollars is pretty cheap… Crescent Root isn't that cheap. Most of my collection is non-BF buildings, but these BF ones are a pretty good value.

Truscott Trotter13 Sep 2012 4:19 p.m. PST

Neal I have seen the CR and BF sode by side no comparision as to quality and appearence
personally I buy unpainted buildings mainly
I have bought the BF Railway Station and Church as they are unique and worth an extra $ or two – but if they had a unpianted version I would have bought those instead.

BTW in case anyone was wondering it is the handpainting that is causing all the hold ups in BF distribtion of terrain. You can make as make casts as you want but there are only 24 hours in a day and 2 hands per Malaysian painter – unless BF train Octopus – hey maybe thats what Putin was up to recruiting painters for BF?

NealSmith13 Sep 2012 7:21 p.m. PST

Just so you are clear, I never said that BF buildings were the same quality. I said they were a good value.

I love the CR stuff painted and not.

My biggest problem these days is finding time to paint it, so if I can get a decent painted building for the same/cheaper price as an unpainted one, then I'm going to buy it.

Truscott Trotter13 Sep 2012 10:50 p.m. PST

I buy unpained building for $10 USD-15
Painted ones at $20 USD-40
I notice MBA have 3 nice row houses for $60 USD

jdginaz14 Sep 2012 10:13 p.m. PST

I bought the Calais house the other day and was not impressed with the quality of the paint job. As soon as I removed it from the box I noticed that the paint on the corners was starting to rub off. The grey color has a strange speckled effect, other and than the floor the interior isn't painted. Finally as the paint rubbing off shows they didn't seal the paint.

I would much rather have a unpainted building at a cheaper price that what I got since I ended up having to do enough touch up that I might as well have started from scratch.

JDG,

I feel your pain, their building quality is great casting…poor painted.

I asked them several times on their fourm's about the colors they used. The thread was removed within five minutes. I went looking for it using the "threads user has made" couldn't find it at all. So to add insult to injury one of their mods calls me out and says "you're paranoid…it was right here the whole time."

I guess I must be a liar then…but hey it's a wee bit suspicious that none of their staff has chosen to respond to the thread.
