Are there any good books in English about the Belgian defense in 1914? I know there are books covering the French and English contributions to the defense of Belgium, but I haven't seen anything on the Belgians themselves. |

I have just finished reading In Flanders Flooded Fields by Paul van Pul. It is a recent book and still available on Amazon. It deals mainly with the evacuation of Antwerp, the retreat to the Yser and the decision to open the flood controls at Nieupoort and is a fascinating book. I would highly recommend it. The invasion of Belgium in 1914 is one of my interests but other than this book and the 1917 book by Leon van der Essen, there are no other books in English that I am aware of. |

The Battle of the Frontiers-Ardennes 1914 by Terence Zeuber. it is the only book I know which covers the fighting on the Western Front during the early stages of WW1. Another good source are the Encyclopedias Purnells History of World War One published during the 1960's and 1970's [ 8 Volumes ]-theodore |

Howdy, Zuber's new Lorraine book is at the publisher, and he is starting on his next book on the Sieges of Liege and Namur. I don' know publication date on either, yet. Ponder on, JAS
