Good evening all. Hopefuly this isnt to big an ask / hope. Ive got some Mongrel 28mm US Marines and some Force of arms `nam era trucks with crew ( a maxxon mount escort, a plain flat bed, and a M113 gun truck) can i get away with mix and match here? and if so what colours am i looking for for the uniforms, my ( few) referance books seem to show the marines in "green" for a good chunk of them but a lot of the pics are B&W. I have some referance shots from 90ish that show a DPM uniform so i know that they switched just not when. Many thanks. |

I'm not so sure of the M113 gun truck or any gun truck for that matter. The Marines never had M113 in Vietnam and, as I recall, the gun truck units were all Part of Army transportation units. I did my USMC unit in Vietnam in green and skipped the camouflage uniforms. Vince |

Having been in stationed in SE Asia in the early to mid 80s, I can tell you my helmet cover bleached out VERY quickly in the sun and rain so that it seemed pretty much the same faded green as my uniform. I was Army, and not Marines, but same supplier for both services. So VCarter is right in his skipping the camo. |

thank you gents! that was the kind of thing i was hoping to hear. resonable accurate and not to difficult ( im planing on using them from veitnam through early 80s cold war to vaugely twilight war, to anti alien dr who ish to imperial guard, so a resonable amount of slack is going to be cut ) |

The Marines actualy did operate the M113 in Nam but it was a specific unit and they only had a small number. The 3rd tank Bn in 1969 in Quang tri operated about 4 of them. They where used for forward logistics and C&C there is a photo of them (#46) in Tanks Illustrated No 6 Tank War Vietnam. |

Thanks. I stand corrected. Now I will say they never used the M113 in any numbers. I do, however, believe that the gun trucks were only used by Army transportation units. This does not mean they were never deployed in support of a Marine unit or that the Marines never made field improvisions. At the time of Hue all kinds of things would be possible. If any of that sounded at all snarky, please believe me it was not my intention. Vince |

I believe the few M113's the Marines used were not actual Marine vehicles, but rather borrowed from the Army |

I was issued camouflage uniforms when I went through San Diego boot camp in 1979, my friend was issued sateen uniforms at Parris Island (greens) in 1978. I do not recall seeing anyone wearing sateen uniforms in boot or afterwards, but do remember seeing pictures of them still being used in training settings (ISTR the picture that showed the 'junk on the bunk' layout showed sateens). |

HistoryPHD you may well be right but at the time they carried USMC markings and serial numbers. there are often inter service loans of equipment IE USMC loaned USA about 18 Lav25s for Desert Storm etc I'm sure that its quite common if the circumstances warrant it
