I am very impressed You acquire legal rights to IP. Very, very good job.

Hi Hawkeye88,
I've been waiting for a miniature figure of Madox-01 since I saw the OVA over 20 years ago. I have most of the Hobby Japans that contain the "City Breaker" series and the variants. I created an account on TMP just so I could follow this and try to get my hands on some of your figures. So please, put me down for some. I personally would prefer 28mm figs because then you can use them with a ton of other cyberpunk / para military RPG minis, such as Infinity or AT-43. I'd be in for any variants as well. I know you already said no to the Tarantula, but what about the Wolverine (the GAU-8 armed 8 wheeled tank) from the Hobby Japan series? I'll try to dig up my mags with pics. Anyways, I'd be super excited with just the Madox and Hammerhead suits.

Hawkeye8824 Feb 2013 5:25 p.m. PST

Personally, I think I would prefer 28mm as well, but there didn't seem to be much interest in it. 15mm seems more viable. Maybe a Kickstarter campaign in the future. Nothing ruled out. The Wolverine is not ringing any bells, so please feel free to post pics. Again, my interest is in the PA suits. So the vehicles may be cool (and the Tarantula is), I'm just not real interested in going down the vehicle route. I don't think I could do a good job.

28mm would be pricey, and you're competing with anything from GW to Infinity, Hasslefree to Victory Force.

In 15mm, though, the model is physically small enough to crank out several different versions as needed, and still be fairly inexpensive (remembering that 15mm is horribly underpriced right now, with the direct ordering from makers)

(I make fun of others)25 Feb 2013 1:19 p.m. PST

I'd panic too if I had metal skin! Interesting concept, good luck with it.

FryCook25 Feb 2013 5:21 p.m. PST

I've been investigating 15mm sci-fi figures out there. Pretty bleak unless someone wants to prove me wrong? Hawkeye, you posted this on TMP so it probably means first and foremost you are producing this for wargames. And I guess people are expecting to field dozens of these suits. I was mainly thinking about RPGs and skirmish games which means a handful of figures and it's ok if those are pricey and unique. I'd still be interested in the 15mm figures and I just found these sci-fi rules called Gruntz 15mm which sound fairly awesome.

All that said, I'd still be more interested in 28mm… :)

I found my Hobby Japan with the Wolverine. This is a pretty poor snap, but I'm not next to a scanner.

Duck Crusader25 Feb 2013 10:20 p.m. PST

Put me down for 15mm too.

10 and 15mm are just so much more versatile than 28. You can get bigger and more varied vehiles on the table cheaper and easier, and the ranges are more believable.

Eli Arndt26 Feb 2013 6:50 a.m. PST

I think 15mm is the way to go on these.

@Frycook: Do you really want to shell out $30 USD+ for a single character model? That would make you highly unusual among gamers, since I hear people complaining about $10 USD a mini in a game you need 10 minis to play!

That's about what you'd be looking at for that much metal. The Trollforged PVC doesn't work well for multipart models, and resin has it's own issues that result in higher prices.

FryCook26 Feb 2013 6:40 p.m. PST

I don't think I'm that unusual for certain types of gamers. :) Probably unusual for wargamers. I, personally, would rather own a smaller number of some larger, more detailed version (that work with a much larger variety of quality figures) than own a lot of smaller figures. I'd consider them something comparable to 40K Forge World stuff (forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Tau/TAU-BATTLESUITS-AND-DRONES?filter_reset=1) which I would pay for.

However, As I already stated, I'd rather have some MADOX figures than none and clearly Hawkeye is focused on the wargamers who have spoken. So be it! 15mm! A guy can have his own opinion, right?

I can, though, image several MADOX suits in this 15mm scene…

…and that would be downright awesome.

Hawkeye8826 Feb 2013 8:02 p.m. PST

Well, the models are actually being designed for 28mm, and I planned on scaling them down to 15mm for production. Nothing is a done deal. We'll just have to play it by cyber-enhanced ear. Gotta admit, MADOX would look pretty sweet in that setting. Looks like I found my painter and photographer ;-)

And the Wolverine looks like a perfect candidate for the Rebel/Ross multi-platform whatsit.

If you want characters, Frycook, you should really check out Khurasan Minis and Rebel Minis (sadly, K is tied up in Real Life(tm) at the moment, so he's closed the webstore).

Khurasan has 15mm minis with better detail than I have seen on no small number of 28s!

FryCook27 Feb 2013 5:45 a.m. PST

I'll check those out, Lion. Thanks.

Yeah, I wasn't in any way trying to claim credit for that 15mm scene. I actually found them here.

I do paint minis though!

Hawkeye8827 Feb 2013 2:41 p.m. PST

Sorry, that's my fault. I was just having a little fun. I really should not assumed that any particular pic belonged to someone in particular. I was just acknowledging that, yes, it would be cool to see in such a seen.

I really can't say much towards pricing atm. $30 USD per 28mm fig would be at the high end, and that would be for the larger -01. And I still wouldn't be happy at that level.

A few casters have complained to me about 15mm, thinking that it's not really economical, that you have to do lots, etc.

Admittedly, they probably will be more than most 15mm parts. That's due to their bulk, required number of pieces to assemble, limited quantities, licensing fees, etc.

But I will do my best. I am, after all, a cheap bastard.

EricJ1044827 Feb 2013 6:11 p.m. PST

I would be interested in some 15s. I would love to see lots of different anime mecha like Gundam, Votoms, Dunbine, etc.

Hawkeye88, could you stop posting renders of these MADOX suits? I had to replace three keyboards and new glasses caused by the drool and continuous staring at you wonderful work. Thank you. ;)

Seriously though, just post where and when I can get my hand on each of the variants.

Scorpio13 Jul 2013 6:10 a.m. PST

Um, wow.

Personal logo MrHarold Sponsoring Member of TMP13 Jul 2013 7:04 a.m. PST

Wow, those are some pretty slick looking renders!

Lion in the Stars13 Jul 2013 12:14 p.m. PST

WOW!

That is awesome!

I probably would buy one or two in 28mm to use in my Infinity games, but I'd be in for many in 15mm.

Hawkeye8813 Jul 2013 4:21 p.m. PST

Unfortunately there is still much work to be done and I likely need to find a new modeler. Too bad. I really like this gentleman's work.

I had them modeled in 28mm in case I ever wanted to go large, but the intent really is for 15mm.

Eclipsing Binaries14 Jul 2013 7:29 a.m. PST

Those look the business!!

Richard Gaulding14 Jul 2013 8:14 a.m. PST

Those are sexy indeed. I hope you find a good modeler, release these, and make lots of money!

Dunadan14 Jul 2013 6:33 p.m. PST

Those are incredible. Definitely on board for the 15mm scale suits.

Lion in the Stars14 Jul 2013 8:39 p.m. PST

@Hawkeye: That sucks that you need to find a new modeler, but I really wish you luck in getting these out. I *know* I will buy many in 15mm. Probably nowhere near enough for you to break even, but I hope to put a good dent in getting you there!

Hawkeye8821 Jul 2013 1:44 p.m. PST

I doubt I'll ever make money, let alone lots of it. That was never a goal. I'm just happy you guys like what you're seeing. I'll have a look around for a suitable modeler and see how things go.

squadno924 Jul 2013 2:33 a.m. PST

Hawkeye88 you are a legend! I was only trying to remember the title of this anime the other week! Thank you, thank you, thankyou!

On that note I would like to see some of these style mecha. Not these big huge towering types you seem to get in 15mm.
I could imagine a mecha like this, popping out from around a building corner, letting of an Anti tank round before popping back round the corner.
I just don't see how the walkers and mechas currently available, fit this. They seem like such a big target!

Rebel minis have a decent type with the Tomcats and Wildcats but I'm not sold on the heads of them.
Excellent concepts though, will be keeping my eye on this!

Cheers!

Gunner Dunbar25 Jul 2013 4:06 a.m. PST

Yeah, these are looking nice, I'd buy a few.

jscurry21 Aug 2013 10:05 a.m. PST

I would buy a few as well. I've been looking for *ANY* version of the Madox-01 since the movie came out. :-)

Kev134021 Aug 2013 11:23 a.m. PST

Very impressive! I'd def be in for some 15mm ….. Might be tempted to a couple of 28mm to ….

Cheers,

Kev

Lion in the Stars14 Sep 2017 6:20 p.m. PST

So, whatever happened with this project?

I'd probably be in for one -00 and one -01, with weapons options, in 28mm, and probably a full Heinlein MI platoon of 54 in 15mm!
