Hi All, Some of you may remember an OVA from 1988 called Metal Skin Panic MADOX-01. The MADOX is one of my favorite power armor designs of all time. This guy: tinyurl.com/8bjod2c. I've been talking with the right's owner about making 15mm and/or 28mm figures. Actually, figures for both -00 and -01, plus variants, options, etc. So really my question is whether or not anyone else here likes the designs and would be interested in seeing them made. |

Reminds me of the artwork form the Bubblegum Crisis game. I would be interested for the figures in 15mm, not sure about 28mm. Bad_Mood |

Yes, for 15mm, but not 28mm. I remember when that Anime was brand new . . . . oh well, just getting old. |
SBminisguy | 07 Sep 2012 5:12 p.m. PST |
Yes, 28mm, but not 15mm for me, please!! |
Richard Gaulding | 07 Sep 2012 10:42 p.m. PST |
IIRC, isn't MADOX actually part of the Bubblegum Crisis timeline? A prequel of sorts? Also, yes on both 15mm and 28mm! |
stroezie | 07 Sep 2012 11:06 p.m. PST |
I'd be interested in 15mm, no 28mm though Now if you were to make them in 6mm I'd buy em for sure, there's a destinct lack of mobile suits/small mecha in 6mm, say between 15mm and 25mm tall. |
Eclipsing Binaries | 08 Sep 2012 1:55 a.m. PST |
15mm for me, and it would be a BIG yes!! |

IIRC, isn't MADOX actually part of the Bubblegum Crisis timeline? A prequel of sorts? That's what i read somewhere as well. 15mm but I'm only going to say yes if the Tarantula Mini-tank and the Bubblegum Hardsuits get the green light. |
Lion in the Stars | 08 Sep 2012 5:06 a.m. PST |
Ground Zero Games has some true-25mm Not-BGC hardsuits that are rather tiny
And I'd totally get some of those MADOX units in 15mm. |
Eli Arndt | 08 Sep 2012 9:35 a.m. PST |
I love the MADOX units and would love to see some heavy power armor like that in 15mm. -Eli |
Hawkeye88 | 08 Sep 2012 10:30 a.m. PST |
IIRC the character who designed the MADOX went on to design the K-series battlemovers for the AD Police. Maybe that one of the artists in MADOX went on to work in BGC. I'm much too lazy to check the liner notes. Unfortunately it seems like I've definitely lost at least one customer ;-) Under no circumstances will I be making BGC hardsuits, and so far the license we're discussing covers just MADOX-00 and -01 and derivatives, nothing more. We shall see. |
Eli Arndt | 08 Sep 2012 10:43 a.m. PST |
It would be easier enough to sub in MADOX suits for AD Police ones or you could always make your own variant that was close but not identical to the AD Police ones. Even the AD Police suits changed from series to series and within a series. |

Do not want. Explain? It's one thing to say "eh I'm not really a fan of this" or "oh I wish it was more this way", but flat out saying that you don't want to see someone produce a product that you apparently aren't going to buy anyway is just rude. |
LordNth | 08 Sep 2012 7:58 p.m. PST |
So no BGC Hardsuits but the tank from MADOX, the Tarantula is a maybe? I see a Limited Edition set.. ;) |
Eli Arndt | 09 Sep 2012 6:06 a.m. PST |
My mind goes straight to extrapolation on the core source material here. MADOX-01 is a prototype in the series. What about production variants? I know that several Hobby Japan articles introduced everything from gatling guns to drop packages, limpet mines, etc. Honestly, I think you would have morel uck marketing them as cool military scifi minis. MADOX-01 was kind of obscure even in its day and was more developed as a hobby subject than the anime itself. The designs, however, are solid and should appeal to folks looking for something different in armored battlesuits. Some pics for folks who don't know what it is link

I don't mind people saying "No." It's irrelevant. What matters is how many say "Yes." I would not hold my breath on the Tarantula. The terms of the license will dictate what I can do, but basically what I asked for was to be able to use and develop the -00 and -01 suits, and nothing more. In my own little universe, these are Heinlein's MI. Yes, I have variants planned. I like the Sledgehammer, frex. We can use that as the big league anti-tank variant. Clawhammer will be the close combat version. Jackhammer will be the rocket pod version (the latter two being my own variants). Those are all based on the -00 Hammerhead. The -01 will get its own variants as well, including a dedicated scout and a dedicated command suit. (The airdrop version I'm not going to touch. The Equalizer cannon version I consider to be the main trooper). And physical sizes will probably be a little larger than some people would expect. The -00 is "officially" listed at ~8'2", but, assuming a 5'6" pilot, it really needs to be closer to 9'3", at least, and taller if you want average height men in there. I'm tentatively planning on a 10' suit, so roughly 30mm height for the -00, then 23mm for the '01 (~7'8"). Obviously I'll know more once I build them in 3D. The point being that a faithful recreation of the -00 and -01 is nice, but a developed line with more models is more interesting. |

you've got my attention -Eli |
stroezie | 09 Sep 2012 11:11 a.m. PST |
30mm would be pushing it for me, but 23mm has definately got my attention. |
Hawkeye88 | 09 Sep 2012 12:17 p.m. PST |
Yeah, 30mm is big. The -00 pushes the limits for just about as large as a powered SUIT can go before it crosses into robot territory (IMNSHO). The pilot's legs are in the suit's legs, but the pilot's arms are bundled up in the suit's chest. I'm thinking PI -- Panzer Infantry
with Panzer translating to armor or tank. But I'd rather not go the whole Panzergrenadier route. Or maybe Armored Infantry. Or Armored Mechanized Infantry (AMI? lol). Or just Mechanized Infantry. Or who the frak really cares. Maybe we need a poll on what you prefer to call your PA guys. I'm still partial to BGC's Battlemovers. |
LordNth | 09 Sep 2012 12:44 p.m. PST |
I wasn't saying no. Sorry if it came off that way. Just I got excited thinking if you had the license then all the other stuff (all the MADOX stuff, AD Police, BGC). Yes I'd want one (or two), even if just to get the ball rolling on the other stuff. While Kevin will say it isn't so, you can see the inspiration for RIFTS S.A.M.A.S. power armor. So there is some crossover appeal. |
Eli Arndt | 09 Sep 2012 12:53 p.m. PST |
The terms Powersuit or Battlesuit are always good too. I feel the German nomenclature is over-used and have been guilty of using it too freely myself. -Eli |

Man I LOVE MADOX-01. Best plot ever, guy goes to pick up his girlfriend and gets stuck in a Power Armor that is being sought after by a CRAZY tank commander! 15mm would be great to see! |

Eli Arndt | 10 Sep 2012 10:06 a.m. PST |
Oh
that was the name of the tank. NM. It's been a decade or so since I watched the anime. |
Sargonarhes | 10 Sep 2012 5:25 p.m. PST |
The MADOX isn't a part of the Bugglegum Crisis story, just same designer. Much like how Kunio Okawara is well known for designing Gundams, but he also designed the AT Votoms. Or Shoji Kawamori for Macross, Ghost in the Shell, Outlaw Star and Gundam 0083 etc
. Aramaki Shinji is the man that designed the MADOX-01, who is also known for Bubblegum Crisis, Genesis Climber MOSPEDA, Gall Force, (which is why Inbit/Invid and Paranoid drones look so much alike) He too have been involved with Gundam MS Igloo. The anime Starship Troopers powered suit was designed by Miyatake Kazutaka, who is also known for his designs in many Dirty Pair shows as well as for the Macross Fortress itself.

Don't worry Lord Nth, pretty sure you didn't say anything ;-) I think I was implying that MADOX and BGC were related but I don't mind being wrong. It's been a long time since I've watched BGC and I was just going off half-remembered things. Yup, Tarantula was the tank. I like it well enough, I'm just more interested in doing PA right now. Wouldn't bother me in the slightest if someone else took the Tarantula and ran with it. I like the Japanese SST PA. I think it's a bit dated (more so than the MADOX) but it is cool. Now if we could just get some pseudo-arachnids with guns

Just a little positive update. Still talking with them. They seem pretty willing
you know, because they sent me the terms sheet to sign ;) The terms seem pretty reasonable. There are a few points that need clarification, but all in all I'm kinda excited. |

More people should be doing things like this. I'd love to see more licensed stuff on the market. Someone should call disney about some star wars stuff. I wonder if they are less of a tight wad then lucas was. |
Lion in the Stars | 16 Feb 2013 9:22 p.m. PST |
I'm amazed that they're willing to give a license for any time other than Comiket
Yes, ONE-DAY licensing for products. Well, technically it's a 'you can only sell licensed product on this day' license. Japan has all sorts of 'put it on the shelf and look at it' collectors, but they don't seem to get the minis gamer. Not like my parents do either, though. But color me highly interested. I'd definitely pick up a few. Maybe a platoon's worth. OK, maybe a Mobile Infantry platoon's worth (~50)! |
Kyn ell | 16 Feb 2013 9:26 p.m. PST |
So how much do you reckon would a license to produce star wars 15mm stuff cost? Would it be viable? |
Hawkeye88 | 16 Feb 2013 10:29 p.m. PST |
If I had to guess, about $20,000 USD up front, then a 10% royalty per fig. Negotiate it right and that initial $20 USDK would count towards your royalties. I could do that, but I'd rather not. I'm generally not as interested in troops as I am mechanicals (PA notwithstanding). Isn't there already a ton of not-SW figs anyway? That said, it would be an interesting thought experiment. But not in this thread, me thinks. |
Lion in the Stars | 16 Feb 2013 11:28 p.m. PST |
Forget the SW stuff. Get a good showing with the MADOX suits, then go back and see what else you can license! If I didn't have to convert Gasaraki minis, that would be really freaking cool! |
