The empire of Greater Tratvia is pleased to announce that it's army has a painted unit! More on the blog: link

Nice! Love that "toy soldier" look

Nice! What are you priming with?

pink panzer07 Sep 2012 7:58 a.m. PST

After a good scrub I 'painted' these chaps with two generous coats of PVA before actual painting (with acrylics) commenced. For some other 1/32 plastics I have also used 'Rustoleum' plastic primer spray paint.

Pink-
Thanks! I like to use plastics in both 20mm and 54mm. Since you use PVA, I suppose you find it doesn't obscure detail too much? Or, given your preference for the "toy soldier look", is it not that important?
In terms of durability, do you like the rustoleum or PVA better?
I just finished painting up about 100 54s for "Pig Wars".
Primed using artist's white gesso. Takes paint nicely (after all. that's what its for). But its not super quick, as one must be careful not to glop on too much. Durability is yet to be seen. They are dipped and matt varnished- I think they'll be OK.

Durability is important to me – these chaps will be used in floor and garden games – and for the toy soldier look a loss of detail is not only acceptable but arguably desireable!

I have been tempted with the thought of 1/32 imagination gaming myself. I am also leaning towards the gloss finish with minimal details look. Nice job.

Less just say that the 'minimal details' approach fits well with my panting abilities….

I love the 54mm figures as well, and have many plans for futures gaming when my boy is old enough. Check out my website

There are a couple pages of 54mm figures from Spartans to WWII and many makers. I have been hoping to make a Jacobite army, but have not had the time to paint the figures i have. Thanks for the inspiration.
