Last monday there were here, the first Napoleonic tournament with a cash prize for the winners. From 15mm, 25mm and 28mm.figures. The amount was not hight BUT
as I feared it was a disaster!. They had to suspend the event when people began their fist fights. Incredible how normally good people with sweet ways and attitudes change inmediatly to sanguinary beasts! Poor controlers took the brunt of it. Not all of them, thanks god! But many more I think at the beginning. Are there any other place with cash prize for tournaments you know? And if the answer is yes, how people perform there?. Thanks in advance for your guidance. I used to play in chess tournaments where cash prizes could be extremely high. In 35-40 of playing I can only recall one fist fight, but it was a doozie! I suppose it is a wargame that prides itself on self-control and gentlemanly behavior. Campaign games make people more competetive. Tournaments make them even more competetive. Throw in cash or lots of minis as prizes and all bets are off. |

I think I'll stay with the gaming for fun idea. Used to play pool for money. Another good way to start a fight. |

The problem is (unlike chess or pool) most wargames rules are not that tightly written, and rules lawyers abound. Add actual MONEY to the mix (As opposed to a trophy and gift certificates) and the worst side of people's natures comes out. Also, where does the money come from? Is it donated by a manufacturer or is it added into the entry fees? If the latter, the poor or unlucky players wind up subsidising the winners. Too much potential for ill feeling IMHO. Best to walk away. |

What were the rules used I wonder? But who thought this would be a good idea, except for the guy who thought turkeys could fly. |

They had to suspend the event when people began their fist fights. "OK, that's IT!!! If you people can't control yourselves this tournament if OVER! Get out of here, you disgust me!" "Oh look at all this extra cash we got Bob." |

Ask the Louisiana boys about money tournaments
. They had to issue rulers and dice after the $1,000 USD prize fiasco. |
