Played another modern warfare themed game of Brink of Battle a while ago, trying out some of my Iraqi army against Patrik's Navy Seals.

You can check out more pictures from our game here:

Who makes those SEALS?

Those are Elhiem models, if I'm not mistaken.

Shawn.

Yep Elhiem all of them.

Anatoli, that is a great looking board, and awsome figures! I believe Shawn is correct, the SEALs look lile Elhiem figs. Anatoli, the SEALs arebasd on what looks like 25mm rounds, can you confirm that, or are they a different size? ~Brian

never got into the idea of "points" for gameplay. Balance through the scenario. Uneven forces, strict rules of engagement, constricting victory conditions, stealth requirements, "leave no man behind" rules that have the elites carrying out their dead… any or all of these could work.

Remember Special forces-types aren't regular soldiers. They don't get "regular soldier" missions. Most of the time they are alone in places they "shouldn't be", doing things they "shouldn't do", with little in the way of support if it all goes to hell. Often times they have to either leave no trace or deliberately fool the enemy into thinking they are someone else (called a "false-flag" operation)

I had an idea for a convention game… a 6 man seal team "black-op" game. The badguys are some kind of foreign nationals or terrorists with some kind of McGuffin/Widget that the Seals need to get off the boat for the intel weenies to peer over and analyze on a freighter. The seal team objectives are as follows: To get a widget from the captains quarters. Leave no evidence it was AMERICANS doing the mission (including dropped gear and fallen comrades) and plant "evidence" pointing to a Russian spetznaz kill team. Preferably by having a few survivors who only heard gunfire and Russian yelling.

taking it to your game:

The United states is "out" of Iraq… but we still have assets there to make sure IRAN stays out too. Maybe the SEALs need to infiltrate an Iraqi warlord/governor/general/whathaveyou's palace… Maybe this cat is a little too friendly to the Iranians… Maybe it would be in "the best interest of the US" if he were say… to develop a 7.62mm headache… and have the blame on either the iranians, or ANOTHER pro-iranian faction, you know… so those two factions could go to war with each other leaving the pro-US faction that much stronger…

Of course, if it were found out in any way that the US were meddling in the affairs of the newly freed Iraq, that would be "BAD". To top things off, you could throw in wildcards like a coup atempt by the pro-us forces WHILE the sealteam is doing their raid, the appearance of pro/anti badguy protesters, or even a CNN News crew that the seals need to avoid.

There you go. Instant scenario where disproportionate forces are equalized and you have a non- "blackhawk down" scenario. you can assign victory conditions to both sides, and the iraqi player can still "win" even if his leadership character gets head-capped. If he gets hold of a dead american or some kind of "evidence" that it was SEALS, that's a partial victory for them.

Oh, and I love the layout. Figs and terrain are amazing. Is that 15, 20, or 28mm?

Mako1105 Sep 2012 11:16 a.m. PST

Elheim's figs are 20mm, if I recall correctly.

He makes nice stuff.

that table looks great.
