Running a blog or hobby site can be a lot of work--to do it the right way. I've seen a lot of good blogs but I've also seen just as many (or more) bad ones. Thing is, I really try to reserve harsh judgement and replace it with a nice, encouraging email to the blog owner ("Hi! Nice site. I was looking for such-and-such but was a bit confused about your navigation
").
Believe it or not, a lot of bloggers don't get that kind of feedback.
Taxonomy, categories, tags
it can be a lot of work to get a blog organized by topic (i.e. Painting, Conversions, Dioramas, etc. etc. etc.). If there is a decently written description of what I'm looking at, and a high-res photo, it's OK by me. If the site is unorganized and it's hard to find things, it's a nuisance but there's nothing *I* can do about that so I send a friendly note about it.
My hobby site is a mess. It's more of a cob web than a web site at the moment. I haven't updated it ages, there are pages missing from a site overhaul, I still have some of the default copy from the theme I installed, and frankly, I can't always find the time needed to maintain it properly.
Still, it's something that I enjoy toying with from time to time and if I can inspire even one person to go out and build their own blog or gaming-related project, I consider that a success.
