Ok I the other night I was using Humbrol liquid cement, which I've used before along with similar products for years, and for the first time Micro Set from Microscale Industries. Next thing I know I've got a really tight chest, sore throat and the start of a headache. Symptoms which had worn off by the next day. I pretty much know whats in the liquid cement and its never triggered anything like that before, but I don't have a clue about the Micro Set and wondered if anyone else had reacted to the product? |

Similar symptoms over the years when using solvent based stuff without adequate ventilation – just make sure you use it near an open window! |

Micro set's little more than a mild detergent as far as I can remember – far more likely to be the liquid poly plus inadequate ventilation. |

Not to be alarmist, but do you have any of the risk factors for a heart attack? link |

Actually, you have developed a sensitivity allergy to one of the components in the glue. I developed problems with superglues over 15 years ago and had to learn to use other glues. It is actually becoming more of an issue with folks these days. I develop a serious respiratory reaction, and it had gotten so bad I almost went into Anaphylaxic shock with extreme breathing difficulty each time, getting worse with each use. I finally realized what was causing it, and even with good ventilation, any "smell" of super glue caused a reaction (I think I am doing better and a little less sensitive as I have not had a problem at conventions, but I still fear the reaction I have had). Here is some additional details: link In fact, do a google search regarding allergies to super glue and similar stuff, and you will find out you are not alone.

Used liquid poly last night without incident – so its not that. I figure if I was likely to develop any kind of sensitivity it would have been years back when I was actually working with one of the solvent components and similar chlorinated solvents on a semi-regular basis. Definitely felt like I got a whiff of something, or perhaps too much of a whiff, as opposed to anything else. The micro set does have an odour, which makes me think it has slightly more than just a detergent in it, but I can't place it. |
