Which do you prefer for metal figure assembly and to steel bases/washers? |

Neither, just cheapo 8 tubes for a quid from Tesco. |

Washers are too expensive these days. I use circular magnets that are very inexpensive from wal mart. |

I think the Gorilla Glue brand CA glue is the same stuff that Gale Force 9 sells. I've noticed that the Gorilla Glue brand is about $1 USD less at Home Depot than the GF9 brand at my FLGS. |

Gorilla Super Glue only

Gorilla Super Glue for all needs that a goopy CA glue is good for, and cheap liquid stuff for the rest. |

Loc-Tite interior (non-stink) household adhesive. Multiple drops from over 1m result in the model breaking at places other than the glue weld. |

For my metals I've, to date, used exclusively Gorilla super-glue. For plastics, I've used Uhu superglue. |

Gorilla Super Glue HANDS DOWN. |

I only use loctite super glue-ultra gel control (blue and black squeeze bottle) any more. it even works on my plastic 54's. Can be had from Home Despot or Wallyworld to name a few :) |

There are different grades of super glue ( I never new this before ) I buy the best I can afford these days- Loctite is excellent quality. The cheap stuff from the $2 USD shop ?
.they cut corners producing that stuff, that's why it's cheap. Mind you if your just sticking washers to the bottom of bases it won't matter, but anything more serious
..get something decent. ( price is a good guide I find generally ) |

I used Zap-a-Gap for probably 15 years, then couldn't find any in local stores about a year ago. Based on recommendations here on TMP, I decided to give Gorilla Super Glue a try. I still use Zap-a-Gap for some applications when I need to fill big gaps, but for most tasks I now prefer Gorilla Super Glue. |

Zap-a-gap is not for gluing the figures to washers -- it's for filling gaps. That said I use Loc-tite and Gorilla cyanoacrylate for basing. |

Zap-a-gap. Easy to find, I'm used to how it works, and it does a great job. |

I'm not sure if there are different types of gorilla superglue, but I use their "impact tough" formula for anywhere that I need a gap-filling glue or the assembly of heavy metal parts. It has a bit of rubber in it so those heavy limbed metal figures are much less likely to come apart when given a jolt. I also highly recommend BSI superglues. You've probably seen them in your model shop with the model shop's name printed on them. They cost the same or less than most hardware store glues when you figure in the amount of actual glue in the bottle and come in a wide range of consistencies. link My current favorite is Instacure plus which has a consistency between watery and gel glues. I would use their rubberized glues instead of Gorrilla, but they aren't stocked at my local train store and I can all ways get Gorilla at the hardware store. I always have a thick and thinner superglue on hand as well as a plastic solvent glue. Different tools for different uses. |
