Which is the coolest hat in military history? Rules, have to be a HAT!! no helmets or beerskins. It can be felt, cloth, leather(again hat not leather helmet) even straw. Examples include, floppy hat, tricorne, bicorne, shako, peaked hat, bonnie hat, cowboy hat, kepi ect. |

Maroon beret – cool enough to be widely copied. |

Why is a bearskin not a hat? |

Being a traditionalist, I shall plump for the elegant tricorn, which was so stylish it was in fashion for a hundred years. |

Oh, that's a tough one I do really like the classic bell top shako – and nothing says "elegant" like a well laced tricorne However, I have to go with the kepi |

The Carlist Cap.
Though I like the idea of beerskins

I fail to understand the distinction between hat and cap! And what exactly is a 'beerskin?' My vote? Uhlan Czapkas! The coolest of the cool
My definition of "cool" by the way, is "eye-catching and highly impractical"

the old photo of the grenadier with the white bearskin (polar bearskin perhaps?) bears a strong likeness to the gatekeeper from the Wizard of Oz (which might be another strong entry for 'coolest hat')

Now that is cool! In a minty green sort of way. |

Feed cap. There is no documented evidence of a conscious combatant wearing a feed cap having surrendered or having admitted defeat.

Well since you said "Hat" I would go with my SF Green or British Tan Beret. They are not worth a crap in the rain or to keep sun out of your eyes but those who know what they are have no question on why they are the coolest. VR James Mattes |
