Anyone make the German Kanone TD?

I saw one a "Force on Force" supplement and it was "Way Sexah".

QRF apparently does a Jaguar, missile-armed variant, but no Kanone that I know of.

Inquired about it a few years ago, and one may be in the works, but not 100% sure about that.

Would love to see one too.

Geoff may be along shortly, to confirm, or deny.

Roskopf might make a plastic one, but not sure about that either. They make some 1/100th scale vehicles.

Roco does one in 1/87th scale. Not sure where to get them though, in the USA.

Hrmm. Thanks Mako!

Geoff and I were discussing this recently and he was saying that he might do the Kanonenjagdpanzer 4-5 using their Raketenjagdpanzer Jaguar 1 hull as a starting point.

It would be a superb addition to the range, as the Belgians also used it and the same hull also formed the basis for the Raketenjagdpanzer 2 (SS-11 missile – pictured below right, next to the Kanonenjagdpanzer). The Bundeswehr also turned redundant Kanonenjagdpanzers into mortar OP vehicles simply by removing the main gun and adding a periscopic sight (bottom picture). So QRF would be able to get 'more bang for their buck' from one basic model:

It's figuring out how to get all that added applique armour off…

Grinder……

Of course, just using the lower half, and making a new hull, might be easier.

;-)

I've always sort of wondered – was the Kanone built on a shortened Leopard chassis? Or was it a purpose built platform? Either way, it's a looker.

Yep, one of my favorites, especially with the searchlight box over the gun.

Elsyrsyn,

It was a bespoke chassis that appeared a few years before the Leopard 1, but the Marder was developed from it. The Raketenjagdpanzer 1 was based on the notorious Hotchkiss Schuetzenpanzer-Lang series of vehicles, but the Kanonenjagdpanzer and Raketenjagdpanzer 2 were entirely new (I think).

Jaguar 1 was built from redundant Raketenjagdpanzer 1 hulls, while Jaguar 2 was built from redundant Kanonenjagdpanzers.

Yes, I would love to see this!

IIRC the prototype of the JpzK was built on the same chassis as the RJpz1, with tracks similar to rubber chevrons used by the Sherman. Tankograd makes a good little book about the series, dual language (German/English) worth picking up…

Damon.

Mark – thanks for settling the lineage for me!

I've just found a Roskopf model of the Kanonenjagdpanzer 4-5 in a militaria shop in Sainte-Mere-Eglise (for 8 Euros) and very nice it is too! This model appears to date from the 1960s or 70s and is packed in a flimsy yellow card box, with cellophane window.

Having got it home and compared it to my QRF Jaguar, I'm very pleased to report that it's almost exactly the same size and it's a very nice model (perhaps 1mm or so shorter than the QRF model). I'm now going to scour the interweb for more.

I also picked up a Roskopf Schuetzenpanzer-Kurz 81mm Moersertraeger, which is exactly the same size as the QRF SPz-Kz and is a superb little model.

I've never heard of Roskopf before, but they are now on my radar. The same shop had a selection of other Roskopf vehicles, though the tanks looked very under-scale.

Not having much luck in finding any more for sale on the web. I'd be grateful if anyone could let me know if they come across some.

Khurasan is coming out with a scifi one they previewed it on TMP, sorry no link.

Lion in the Stars21 Aug 2013 11:15 a.m. PST

The Khurasan version is a scifi'd E-series. I'm not sure how different the E-series are to the Kanone.

GeoffQRF21 Aug 2013 1:58 p.m. PST

I'm told ours is done – just waiting for Chas to confirm it is in mould

Jemima Fawr21 Aug 2013 4:24 p.m. PST

Ooo tidy! :)

In that case I'll take a few of yours and turn my plastic one into a Beobwagen.
