Just recently picked up Duffy's 'Army of Frederick the Great, Vol2'.

In the books Duffy sets out an fictional example of tactics of the Prussian Army; The four battles of Wendisch-Tyrnau.

A series of four imaginary engagements to illustrate how Prussian and Austrian commanders mite have used the same piece of ground in the different periods of the SYW.

1. Frederick vrs Charles of Lorraine 1757 – The classic oblique order
2. Frederick vrs Daun 1758 – The oblique order is countered
3. Price Henry vrs Hadik 1761 – The 'Austrian' style of attack by dispersed columns
4. Frederick vrs Daun 1762 – The great battery and concentrated assault.

Sounds like a bunch of chess openings & moves

Has anyone actually tried these encounters from the book on the table top?

I think if you joggle your memory, all four examples are based on actual engagements. It just may be Duffy's way of tickling the imagination of the reader.

Seems still a good investment for the SYW enthusiast.

Duffy is not the most inspiring author!

Sounds a bit like a revist of "the battle of Duffy's drift".

Sorry couldn't help myself.
