I see Zvezda has released the Matador in 1/100 scale (15mm) hlj.com/product/zve6175 I am currently working on my UK forces for Northwest Europe 44-45 and have a few questions. 1. I know the Matador was used as a tractor for various guns as well as general purpose to include supply and troop transport. Is the model shown good for all? 2. Would the model shown still be in widespread use by UK/Commonwealth forces in 44-45 in Northwest Europe as a gun tractor and/or troop transport? As always, thanks. |

yes to most of your questions. not used as much as the other gs trucks for troops but certainly used as a big gun tractor for 4.5, 5.5 and sometimes even bigger guns. it looks like zvezda have made the gun tractor version anyway, like the airfix one. |

The AEC Matador was exclusively a medium tractor for Medium Artillery Regiments (4.5-inch & 5.5-inch), Heavy AA Regiments (3.7-inch) and some RAF roles. It absolutely was not a troop transport. Infantry transportation was the job of 3-ton Troop-Carrying Vehicles (TCVs) such as the Bedford QLT and CMP 3-Ton TCV:
The model looks good. However, I'm at a loss to work out what the flag-thingy is on the back. |

The flag thingy is a flag They all have them as part of the Art of Tactic game (but they are just push on components so there's no need to have them/no surgery necessary to lose them)

As always much in the debt to fellow TMPers. Yes the flags are indeed optional and just slip in and out as required. Apparently designed for picking the models up on a crowded board. It appears, for now, that Zvezda is concentrating on early war. They have also released two Matildas and a SdKfz 222 link Unfortunately, since a game, they are releasing in different scales. Vehicles 1/100 (15mm) Guns and infantry 1/72 (20mm) Aircraft 1/144th (fighters and dive bombers), 1/200th (transports and large aircraft) Guess something for everyone! |

The Matador soldiered on well into the 1950s in the British Army. AS RMD says though, as a gun tractor etc, not as a troop carrier. |

Yes, it was a very successful and long-lived vehicle. Our coal man still had one in the 1970s! However, according to my mate who drove them in the RA, the gearstick had a nasty habit of coming off in your hand as you de-clutched! It could be quite dramatic if that happened while going downhill with a 5.5 behind you! :o( |
