These are the first production pressing pictures of the first designs of the new Linked Trench systems from EWM. This model is actually just one core design plate measuring 16 inches by 11 inches approximately, linked to two others. The core design has separate resin roof's for the dugouts you see. The middle version has these roofs as part of the moulding with no access into the dug out below. Both types will be offered with the lift off roofs coming with the deluxe version of this design.
What you see here is 4 foot of model trench systems. More can be added in 16 inch lengths. The dug outs are deep enough for standing 20mm figures with the roof on. Roofs are in resin and bunkers as alternative space fillers for these areas are shown in prototype form. These bunkers fit the same panel as the dug out giving the impression of the bunkers in sides which can be revealed by lifting off the bunker above. You can fit a lot of miniatures in these dugouts as you can see.
The production models feature a new design of Seam for the castings. The seam design allows you to adjust the seam lines to a minimal affect as seen here. The seam design holds the castings firmly together so you can pick all three up by the middle one and move about with ease.
Grateful thanks go to Historical advisors – Paul Barnett and John Briggs, Technical advisor Ian Clunie of Shell Hole scenic's.
These will be available at Colours along with other designs as they complete. I am really excited about these models. I think they have come along way from my first ones I made as a kid, after several visits to the Imperial war museum in the 1970's?

They look really fantastic.

More realistic because of the more gradual front and rear slopes. The dugouts idea is good with the lift off roof.

Need this in 15mm. Any idea if the trenches would work for the newer 15's?

Thank you Tarleton, much appreciated.
Mark, these are designed for 20mm scale figures, the ones in the example pictures are new EWM Tommies. Like all scenary, if it works for you then great. If they are a big 15, some of the ones I have seen lately are 18 mm really, you may have a chance? Bring a figure along and try them at one of the shows I will take them too?

Cheers

Are those tommies listed on the website yet, I don't see them there? Thanks.

I saw these at Colours yesterday and thought they looked pretty good.

Up close and personnl they looked excellent. The lift off roof/bunker idea worked very well. Wouldn't be the first time a terrain piece has sent me off on a new project but alas I game in 10mm using the GWSH and Square Bashing base sizes (30 x 30mm) so unlikely this will be of direct use but the hobby isn't about scale it is about thought and application plus I had a good chat while at Colours. If you game in 20mm you won't be disappointed :)

Neat!

How wide are the bottoms of the trenches? 3/4" (20mm) or so?

If they are, they might be usable with modern 15/18mm (1/100 scale), based on US pennies or 3/4" fender washers. Depends on how deep the fighting steps are.

I've been looking at making some modular trenches myself, for my new Quar armies. Quar are a lot shorter than humans, though, so I don't think I can use these. Shame, they look really nice.

Thanks Tarleton for the information. I will either try to see them in person or have a buddy check them out. It would be great if these worked for my 15mm stuff…or even my 28mm Quar.

Beautiful trench pieces.
