Any ideas how to make balloons and/or aeronef for 1:100 and 1:72 miniatures ? I am looking for something in the general shape for 'easy' conversion and attachment to a vehicle.

Thanks in advance,

Piotr

Polystyrene shapes from Hobby-Craft. Coat in a layer of tissue and PVA and attach to a gondola with twisted wire.

You could also go with clear plastic ornaments…

My HOTT Napoleonic army have hot air balloons:

The 'balloon' is actually one of those softballs from a kid's softpaly area with a thin material drapped over it… actually a pair of my wife's tights I cut up as they are very thin.

The basket is the bottom half of an old GW paintpot but anyhting similar will do.

The stand is clear perspex rod that goes through the basket and is glued to the inside of the softball.

If you wanted more of a dirigible shape then Revell do a Hindenburg or R101 but it may be too big. I recall one chap used smoked cheese as a ballon for a dirigible. They come in long cylinder packages with the ends curves and crimped so are the ideal shape… and a handy snack after.

I've never done any balloons or dirigibles before but . . .

How about using small paper lanterns?

PS. Stenicplus' suggestion to cover the sphere with his wife's nylons might help too.

I had the one below in the 70's. It was around $10.00 USD then.

Frankly, I find most 28mm balloons small to the point of 'representational'. Takes a heck of a lot of air, only partially displaced, to lift a man.

It's more the gondola you need to focus upon. Square party baskets, little resin miniatures, and the like come to mind.

Those nylons work as bags, but to get the open netting, I'd suggest the net bags you sometime see onions and potatoes in.
