Hi all, I'm taking a break from Crusade era painting for a while, and I have gone back to my Zulu War project I had planned ages ago. I'm just about to start on my 2 Royal Artillery "batteries" for Principles of War, and after looking at various contempary photos, painting, and pictures of other peoples work, I'm left a little confused. On the uniform of the gunners (not officers or NCOs), what colour should the piping be on the shoulders and cuffs, and what colour should the collars be? Some show white piping on the cuffs and shoulder straps, others show yellow. Some show red only on the collar, others show red with yellow piping. So I'm a little bewildered! Additionally, would the uniform worn by RA gunners be the same worn by Gatling gun crews? Thank you so much for your help in advance! Ryan |

the collar would be red with yellow trim along the bottom, tunic blue, shoulder straps blue with yellow trim blue cuffs trimmed with yellow lace and trefoil. Trousers were blue with red seam stripes. Buttons were brass and belts white. The white helmet would be stained brown. There could be some variability but lace was always yellow, Gatling gunners would wear the same. |

I concur
unless your Gatling gunners are from the Naval Brigade! |

Thank you very much. I do have the Naval Brigade manning a couple of Gardiner guns, but I doubt they will see any action!!! |
