What are some good places to see WWI planes? I'm looking for the northeast/midwest region of the US. On a side note, has anyone been to the airship museum in Lakehurst? Is it worth going to if its out of the way? |

Rhinebeck is worth a visit. There is a similar flying show near Brampton (Toronto area). I have not seen it and it seemed rather expensive. Rob. |

I live about an hour from Old Rhinebeck and have been there a few times. Its a cool place but if you like planes The US Airforce Museum will blow your mind. It was a 12 hour ride for me and and my Dad, but worth every minute of it. You can even take a virtual tour here. link |

If you're in Southern California, there are a few at the San Diego Air and Space Museum |

There's a place that makes some claim to biplane barnstorming – not sure that it's necessarily related to WWI though – in Virginia. Can't remember where or what it's called but they only fly on Sunday mornings. |

I'll 2nd the US Air Force Museum, plus admission is free. |

I think Sundance might be thinking of the Military Aviation Museum, which is worth seeing. They have some good interwar and WWII stuff too. It is not free, but it is not expensive: link The National Air and Space Museum is definitely worth seeing too (and is free). They have WWI airplanes at both the National Mall and the Udvar-Hazy locations: airandspace.si.edu Mike |

A third for the Air Force Museum near Dayton, Ohio. While they obviosuly cover the spectrum from the beginning of manned flight through the space race, it has a nice selection of WWI planes and artifacts. |

delta6, I didn't know about the MAM. What I'm talking about is just a mom and pop operation at some little airport in rural VA. |

While it's probably a bit further away than you plan to go, Peter Jackson's museum (yes, that Peter Jackson – the 'Lord of the Rings' director) in Blenheim (New Zealand) is a good one: omaka.org.nz

Oh my. That does look very nice. |

Also too far I imagine, but the Shuttleworth Collection has to get a mention with the flying ones they have – and the preWWI flying planes that they have too including the oldest still-flying airframe in the world in their Bleriot which I guess you could theoretically mount a Lewis gun too :) link |

The only one I've been to is Rhinebeck. It was great. I'd love to see to see the Jackson museum in New Zealand. Wow, does that look great! |

In addition to Dayton and the two in Washington, D.C, I'd suggest the Museum of flight in Seattle. About 18 fighters in ww1. |
