I'm painting some 15mm moderns for the current Middle East. I've got various figures with AK-47s and RPGs. I've been using Vallejo for most of my painting. What colors for wooden stocks, metal parts and RPG warhead? Warning: KISS – Keep It Simple Stupid. I paint with two left-hands. Type slowly or I might spill paint on you too!

It depends on which version of the "AK-47" you want to paint. I recommend googling images of both the AK and the RPG to get colors and then matching colors. I would go with Brown for the AK stock and gunmetal for the metal parts. For the RPG, I used a green – not sure which – for the rocket and black or brown, I think for the stock.

It varies between the RPG and AK model. Older RPGs like the RPG-2, and AKs like the early AK-47 had bits of wooden material. More recent models, especially since the end of the Cold War tend to use polymers or cheap steel, like the RPG-22 and AK-101.

I don't use Vallejo so I can't recommend specific colors, but this picture may give you ideas.

The AK74 has a plastic/Bakelite mag, which is (typically) a bright brick-red.

Handguards are still typically wood, but there's a big variety of colors. Ranges from birch-blonde to a dark plum color, occasionally walnut or maple. buttstocks are either wood (generally matching the handguards) or metal.

Hey guys, thanks. Especially Barks1 for the specific colors and numbers.
