link Wondering if Spartan Games is biting off more than they can chew, or is it that they just got bored with swimming so much money? Firestorm invasion will be in 3 scales 10mm (I assume Mass battles lots and lots of tanks and troops) 15mm (Perhaps the scale of Flames of War) 28mm (As the game suggests, special ops, handful of 28mm miniatures. size of Malifuax, Infinity) Day 1 of GenCon lots of News. |

Well, maybe. I'm curious to see how this evolves. I'm already a 15mm fanatic, and still do some 28mm skirmish stuff. I was considering getting into 6mm sci fi for large engagements, but could maybe go 10. Color me interested. Plus, it would be nice to have something I can actually purchase at my local game store. |

that's ambitious. 10mm and 15mm seem
too close. 28mm, though, I'm interested in. Esp. if I they'll work with Infinity
(Okay, I've used up my ellipsis budget for the week

Bland looking minis, especially compared to their competition at Hawk Wargames. Probably be quite a bit cheaper, though. Wonder if the rules will be yet another rehash of the original Uncharted Seas game with added chrome, or if they'll finally do something more original? Those Victorian Invaders have some potential, though. |

Hadn't seen these before
where do you see they are going to do the different scales? Their stuff is really cool looking, and i'd buy me some 15mm minis from them

I'll have to diasgree with you on this one, Rich. From the limited selection of photos on the website, these aren't any more or less bland than much of what we already have available from other 15mm manufacturers. The only faction in Dropzone Commander that I like is the UCM, the PHC looks art-deco to me and the Shaltari just overly ornate and busy-looking. I think I'm just sort of sick of excessively thematic and gingerbread forces. It's what pushed me away in part from 40k- I'm tired of skulls, spikes and cathedrals. |

@MrHarold link This describes the phases and different scales. |

The models look quite uninspired overall. Some of them are nice but my jaw hit the ground when I saw DZ's models at salute. I think these might struggle in 10mm, although they are cheaper so might build a fan base built off that, sort of like mantic. |

Thanks for the link
finally found it! I really like the models, and will be excited to pick some up of the 15mm

I'll have to diasgree with you on this one, Rich. From the limited selection of photos on the website, these aren't any more or less bland than much of what we already have available from other 15mm manufacturers. You're welcome to your opinion, but Spartan isn't a 15mm company, not yet, and Hawk is pure 10mm. Even compared to their own Dystopian Wars figs, those Invasion figs are dull. Thet aren't as silly looking as DW either, but sacrificing creativity for marginal realism is no good trade – IMO, of course. |

They aren't as silly looking as DW either I support this statement 100%. :) |
| Calico Bill | 16 Aug 2012 3:33 p.m. PST |
I don't. I think the DW models are excellent. I'm also very interested to try out Firestorm Invasion in 10mm. |

I think the Dindrenzi Grav armor in particular is Smokin' Hot. the more the merrier!

Looks interesting, but wait and see. It's an ambitious plan, and I would be very impressed if they managed to pull it off. Terribly organised website BTW, took a while to find the actual announcement of the game. |

Given the way they have outlined the "phases", I expect they will be moving really slowly with making any of the bigger stuff in 28mm – I would expect it to be an almost-infantry-only thing, at least initially. Of the smaller scales, 10 and 15 are rather close to each other so one has to wonder a bit about how that's going to work. Perhaps they have a cunning caper planned that I don't immediately get. |

Personally I thought the 10mm Armour pics were very good. I like the way there is a lot of "detail" on all the vehicles, will make them easy to paint up really well. No idea if the game will be any good, but i really like the models |

Finally! This was rumored to come out quite a while ago. As for biting off more then you can chew, I think not really. This is Sparta Studio, think of them as Forgeworld (GW), direct order only. I actually think it's a smart idea, they have some awesome folks working for them and by giving them an outlet for their creative ideas the company binds them closer to them and staves off the burnout. 10mm/15mm/28mm should (and hopefully will be) closer to 10mm/18mm/32mm those are pretty big differences (1:180 vs. 1:100 vs. 1:56). I'm actually looking forward to the 15mm selection, currently not looking for a scale between 6mm and 15mm

The tripod walkers are excellent. They'll fit right into my VSF stuff as well as martians.

The multiple scales are interesting. Since Spartan creates all their models via 3D CAD modelling and then making the masters in 3D printers it's actually no big deal to do multiple scales of identical figures. I wonder if that's the way they will go. |

Might be digging up an old post here, but there's a few things that need mentioning, Got my dindrenzi force today and i'm very pleased with the quality and value for money. firestorm invasion was demo'd at gamecon 2010, just after that, david J lewis left spartan games and began work on dropzone commander. the firestorm invasion rules are available for free of studio sparta's website. and the exploding dice mechanic has been expanded/nerfed nicely. and i'd say there's just as much if not more strategy involved then DZC. at the moment, FSI is being bottlenecked because the existing fan base for FSA is waiting for their 'race' to be released. end of the day, both systems are good but DZC got more release publicity. |

Did David J Lewis came up with the concept for FSI and the rules whilst at Spartan?????? This is interesting

Which hasn't helped much, since DZC has had a horrid production logjam that's only just now starting to resolve itself. Great teaser campaign, but they were caught flat-footed by demand and just couldn't get stuff in stores in good time. |

And of course you can see the review in issue 32 of Battlegames. I wrote it. Miniatures are very nice. The difference between 10mm and 15mm is significant. Rules will not be everybodies cup of tea, but are good enough. |

Not sure what happened, though I'd guess Studio Sparta needed to get enough sculpts to release a decent level of stuff. I know that Infinity is still struggling with this, 6+ years after launch.
These guys I would just about kill for in 28mm. Actually, lemme rephrase that: I'm going to drop Studio Sparta a line and ask if they'd be willing to 3d print some of those in '28mm'. "Nearly 9 feet tall" would be ~48mm tall in 1/56. |
