Hi: I don't understand. I live in Saint Augustine, Florida – perhaps pirate central, in the US. Pirates were rapacious, lascivious, and murderous miscreants. I know, they had a very strict code of ethics (??) in the "Pirate" world, but they were killers, savages and rapists. And THAT I know from the history of my city. What in the name of Jupiter are so noble about them? I realize that if the "Hell's Angels" rode in boats instead of their Harleys, they would be proud to be deemed Pirates. What a great example to live up to. |

What in the name of Jupiter are so noble about them? Simply: They lived long enough ago that we can separate them into parts. All the bad stuff, the stuff you mentioned, we can ignore. What we're left with is a group of independent men, no loyalties to kings, not oppressed by a government, no responsibilities, no bills, no taxes. It's freedom, mate. They go where they will, they do what they like. They are rebels and they are free. Also, they had cool hats. |
