I have asked this question before and have never really learned the trick of making flag close to what the Flag Dude does. I've tried slobbering glue all over the rear of the flags. Probably not the answer. I've tried wetting the flags which resulted in a soggy mess. Does anyone know how he does it? |

I just pay him. I've found it's not worth my time and they never turn out as well as his. |

Hehe That's what economists call "comparative advantage". |

I like the Dude's flags but find the wrinkly crinkly effect unrealistic. The cloth will more likely furl, wrap or fold in a breeze. The most realistic look is to slather white glue on both halves and then press together. Then while the glue is still wet, take a paint brush, pencil or thin dowel stick and shape the curls diagonally to the staff. You get a nice curl and furl effect using this method. The flags usually set solid within a few minutes |

1. Print both sides of desired flag. 2. Cut them out. 3. Glue them together. 4. Let dry. 5. Crush! (In other words, I agree with Der Alte Fritz) |

Although FD makes nice flags, I too agree with DAF on this one. |

after making many flags in 15mm and 28mm, I'm going with Evil Bob's suggestion. If done the white glue and add twists to them, they never looked as good as the Flag Dude's standards. I found out that for the amount of time I was using to make flags, it was easier to just purchase what I wanted from him. |

Well, I like the effect on some of the flags. Generally, I follow DAF's method which results in a nice flag. But, sometimes I want the other look. So, I'll ask the question again, "does anyone know how he does it? |

It is apparently a trade secret since nobody can figure out his he does it. I didn't mean to come across so harshly as I've used the Dude's flags on many units and he provides a nice looking and finished product that even includes the cravats or tassels on thx flag staff Also when other companies can't provide an obscure or complicated flag , the Flag Dude can do it for you if you have a decent picture. I mean, my goodness, he even makes Hanoverian flags (bless him). Jim |

If I needed a couple of flags, I would just buy them from him. But I need more than a hundred so
.. Anyway, if anyone ever figures it out, I am all ears. |

I agree with the the Flag Dude's ability to make unique flags. I orderded some Colonial Brasilian flags that were unique and nobody else makes them (I can't figure out why?). He did a nice job and the symbols came across very well. |

Has anyone ever taken one of his flags and flattened it out? I am going to take a guess that it has to do with the shape that the flag is printed originally. If you take a rectangular flag and try to crimp it to the extent he does it will not look right. You probably need to print it as a slanted parallelagram or even some type of trapezoid. |

These flags were all all handmade by me. They were laser printed from scans. While glue was still wet I crushed them to various degrees. Then painted the edges as appropriate. I use The Flag Dude a lot but this project had too many flags. link |

That is still not the effect he is creating with his flags. So has anyone figured out his technique, I think Waco Joe might have something with the flag not being a sqaure dimension when printed, as I have tryed to replicate the technique also and can not get the center of the flag to replicate. Can anyone tell what type of paper he is using to print his flags on. |

I figured it out and will post a picture tomorrow. but not sure that I will reveal the technique. |

I don't want to make my own flags, but now I'm just plain curious about the mystery! |
