Does anyone know what the branch colours were for KNIL(Dutch East Indies Army) troops? I've seen a photo of a soldier with red collar patches and two of officers with black collar patches. The officers have corresponding black cap-bands, so the second part of this question is; did the cap-bands correspond to the collar patch colour, or were they all black? |

According to Rosignoli (the only source I have on hand at the moment): black for just everyone except the general staff (blue) and ordnance (crimson), while all cap bands were black. IIRC the ordinary rank and file usually didn't have any collar patches though? For books on the campaign, if you haven't got access to Nortier's magisterial accounts, or prefer one in English, check out Boer's recent book (though its focus is exclusively on Java): link |
