I am working on a new DBA army I have obtained as a pre-packed army and one of the elements is a Horde element. Can anyone tell me who these guys would be. and any idea of their dress? The figures seem pretty basic with a sort of skirt and a couple of them look like Sumerians with a wool looking skirt????

Thanks,

Terry

A skirt?

Not for nothing did the Egyptians call them derogatory nickname 'hmty' (meaning women-warriors, because they wore their hair very long).

I often taunt my plastic Hittites. link

"Girly-boys, girly-boys"

They seem quite stoic about it though.

I assume all horde are Butchers, Bakers and Candlestick makers, no matter what the era. Civilians/Militia poorly equiped.
Some horde I did for my Neo-Babylonians but would use them for generic horde of the era.

Concur with TS; my hordes are always an eclectic mix of widely varied & equipped figures. Now if only some manufacturer would build some war cows!

Exellent looking unit. ? manufacturer. 15mm I take it.

TS, what size bases are you using and what rules? I really like the look of those bases, and great figures.

Thank you all for the responses, everything is helpful. I figured they should just be a mish-mash of guys, and that is fine, but I am so new to Biblical ancients that I just wanted to be sure before I painted them. The gamer I got the army from. said the Horde figures are mix of Aramaeans form North Syria, but I have no info on those guys.

If this helps, here is a picture of the figures (if my link works) and maybe some one can advise details for them. Unless I hear different I am just planning on painting the skirts a white or off-white color.

FYI, I will only be using five figures (corresponding with Sue Barker she said Hordes are legal with five figures and they thought they had changed that in DBA2.2, as it will be reflected in 3.0), and will go with the top 4 figures and 1 from the bottom.

Oh, Ammianus, if they made war cows wouldn't we have to change the term from Horde to Herd!!!!! :-)

Again, many thnaks and any additional info or details is appreciated.

Are they meant to be Gasgan tribesmen, maybe?

In 15mm with a powered mini tool, a pair of pliers, safety specs and the correct attachment one could smooth off those unwoven kilts in a trice and with a couple of coats of paint bring them forward a thousand years. :-)

Or a mean scrape from the edge of a blade!
