Thanks everyone – great feed back, keep it coming!

Good to hear about the T-70

Does anyone know how close in size 1/72 PSC is to SHQ and Milicast? I need more T-70s and would like to try the PSC. If the size difference is negligible and they are in a separate unit they might work. Thanks.

PiersBrand12 Aug 2012 8:51 a.m. PST

OK, but there's a method to my madness in the following selections:

1) Renault UE tracteur legere. Built in the thousands for the French Army and the most numerous AFV in Western Europe in 1940, captured by the Germans in abundance and used until the end of the war as a prime mover, weapons carrier, supply carrier, airfield towing vehicle, recce vehicle, anti-partisan vehicle, SP Pak 36 vehicle, rocket launcher vehicle, and built by the Romanians as the "Malaxa," the Renault UE really got around. Some even turned up in the French counter-insurgency effort in Indochine postwar.

2) Char B1bis. Iconic French heavy tank that gave the Germans some nasty encounters, captured examples were used by the Germans as gun tanks, Flammpanzers, and SP howitzer mounts. Flammpanzer B2(f) saw action in German service on the Eastern Front, in the Balkans, and during the fighting at Arnhem and afterwards against the Western Allies. Recaptured Char B1bis were also used by the Free French/FFI against the Germans until the end of the war.

3) Pzkpfw 38(t). This ubiquitous Czech light tank would serve for the Early War, Operation Barbarossa, and for the Hungarian Army as well. By producing the basic 38(t)chassis, all of the nifty SP gun variants can follow, including the Marders, the Hetzer, the Flakwagen, Munitionschlepper, et al.

4) T-28. This was THE Russian medium tank in service during Operation Barbarossa. Surviving examples soldiered on in Red Army combat service until 1943. The Finns used several captured T-28s until the end of the war.

OK, I know, all crazy stuff, but a man can dream, can't he?evil grin

Piers:

Understood, but sometimes the 1/72 and 1/76 scale stuff are "real close" depending on the mfg. I don't have any Milicast stuff and was considering getting a few things until I read the PSC announcement about the T-70 and a couple of other upcoming releases. I have some SHQ T-70s, but nothing to compare them to. I guess I'll have to order something from PSC and compare it.

Thanks

The Young Guard13 Aug 2012 1:46 a.m. PST

do people tend not to mix 1/76 and 1/72????

PiersBrand13 Aug 2012 3:07 a.m. PST

I dont mix the same vehicle in both scales within the same army.

But I mix different vehicles!

Lest We Forget,

i suspect the PSC one will be a bit bigger than the SHQ one (I have that and teh Britannia ones that fit well together).

When I get the PSC one I will do ya some comparison pics if you want.

Lest We Forget13 Aug 2012 7:53 a.m. PST

Piers:

That would be most welcome. Thanks.

I just ordered some PSC Panzer IVs (I have some ESCI and Revell Panzer IVs which are 1/72).

The Young Guard13 Aug 2012 8:59 a.m. PST

Yeah that would be cool!

I have both the PSC Panzer IV and the airfix one (and hasagawa too)……might go down your route and not mix them!

I just built some Airfix Crusaders (1/76) and put them side by side with my old Hasegawa Crusader (1/72) and there isn't a mm difference. Yet the Hasegawa Shermans were so big you could fit two Airfix Shermans in their footprint!
Yes, I mix scales, if they work.

Darkus, I can be a bit of rivet counter myself, and agree with you that, in the best of all possible worlds, it would be great to have all the different versions of each AFV. As a matter of fact that's what I like about PSCs approach to their kits. However, I still maintain that its better for the gamer and the hobby, to get at least one version of those widely used vehicles first.

Again I agree with you that PSC are a good company, and they seem to listen to what gamers want. So credit where credit's due.

Now purely as one fellow rivet counter to another you must admit they did make a hash of that 85mm gun on their first T34/85; way too thick! Jeez those wheels weren't too great either.

spontoon18 Aug 2012 9:26 a.m. PST

Yeah! Italian P/40! Also Russian T28 and T35's!

More Sdkfz 250s and 251s conversion kits, in paricular the 75mm gun options please as you ask.

Redlancer3823 Oct 2012 7:00 a.m. PST

Given the popularity of the Normandy campaign; what about a vehicles range for the 21st Panzers in Normandy. A lot of the vehicles have the same chassis, it would be the first time it was done in plastic, and the range would allow for a conversion pack or two.

Griefbringer23 Oct 2012 10:29 a.m. PST

it would be the first time it was done in plastic

I have a feeling that there is a reason why those have not been by other manufacturers so far…

That's because Airfix's famously eeevil Crusader is way too long in the rear deck.

All the best,

John.

I do have a preference for early war – but that would mean a change of direction. Probably not the best business case.

How about some US vehicles? M8? Halftracks?

rvandusen23 Nov 2012 11:46 a.m. PST

I think a nice set would be the SU-122/SU-85/SU-100. The hull and chassis of these vehicles are identicle. The set could include the three different gun mantles and guns.

mysteron23 Nov 2012 4:58 p.m. PST

A decent M3A1 Scout Car would be a welcomed addition for me. Parts of the existing M3 haltrack moulds could be utilised.

Used by US,USSR,Brits,Free French and some post war uses.

Should be a decent seller.

Would also like to see some of the Soviet Artillery Tractors

number425 Nov 2012 11:33 p.m. PST

No, the Matchbox gun was (yet another) Pak40 auction

They also did the Pak36 and Krupp kfz69 tractor that has been reissued by Revell auction

I have one of the Pak38's from Ace Models, but a less expensive fast build model would be wonderful.

Griefbringer26 Nov 2012 8:02 a.m. PST

As for that 1/76 Matchbox set with ATG and half-track, it has been re-released by Revell as a combo-set with their 1/72 Afrika Korps infantry. Not sure if they have done it separately. But as said, it is actually 75 mm gun.

That said, nice to see someone cranking out the humble 50 mm ATG in plastic – it certainly has been quite neglected so far by the plastic manufacturers. That said, my understanding is that the historical production numbers were a lot smaller than for the 7.5 cm PaK 40 gun, which was cranked out in quite large numbers.

Hi Will, just checking with you if you have a forecast date yet for the M3/M5 Stuart in 20mm please?

Griefbringer16 Jan 2013 5:02 a.m. PST

According to the news published on PSC website last week, they have "just started design work on the Stuart – both 15mm and 1/72nd".

mysteron16 Jan 2013 5:31 a.m. PST

Well I have heard that there will be quite a few new releases for when the new Battlegropup Normandy book is released. PSC are the main distributer for the book.

The Stuart as you mentioned could be one of those models.

Ken Portner16 Jan 2013 11:12 a.m. PST

PSC appears to have a tie-in with Ironfist publishing on Battlegroup Kursk (I got my BGK from them via pre-order).

It would be nice if PSC did the most needed models in 1/72 for BGK.

How about later variant Pz III's?

And how about SU-76M? Weren't they supposedly as numerous as T-34's?

SGusky16 Jan 2013 1:04 p.m. PST

Griefbringer16 Jan 2013 1:51 p.m. PST

And how about SU-76M? Weren't they supposedly as numerous as T-34's?

SU-76 was produced in huge numbers, but it does not come close to the production numbers for T-34. There were over 12 000 SU-76 assault guns cranked, but this pales in comparison to the over 50 000 T-34 tanks of various models that were produced.

That said, since the SU-76 was based on a lenghtened version of T-70 tank mounting a ZIS-3 gun, it seems that PSC already has part of the design work done. Actually, they even have it listed amongst the planned future releases on their website.
