The example on phased moves are all Cav (IIRC). But the narrative indicates that any unit can use it. How often does it get used and by whom and are there any tactical tips around its use? Si |

I've only ever used it for cavalry, as it was my understanding that it was a cavalry-only rule. They are the only unit that gets to use their movement dice in different ways – mounting/dismounting, save for later, etc. As for tactical tips, it's a great way to either launch a counter-charge on defense (station on the flank and keep enough dice back to hit the charge zone), or to evade (keep enough dice back to hopefully be able to run away from the enemy infantry). It's actually a pretty simple and intuitive way to handle both of those sometimes complicated processes. Cheers, Christopher |

I use the concept for charges on un-declared units. If the charged unit is able to respond to the charge by passing morale and evading, the charging unit gets to use any left-over dice to see if he can complete the charge. That MIGHT be in the rules already. but as christopher says, it helps to resolve the complicated situations that would annoy Larry if we called him up in the middle of a game where we could not resolve the situation like gentlemen. |

Cavalry only, sez the rules. But I can see opening this up to specific Skirmisher-type infantry units in certain variants or special cases, esp. if you adapt these rules to different periods or conflicts. (Red Indians in No. America, e.g.?) |
