Does anyone know or have pictures of how the Redoubt AWI Militia compare in size to the Perry AWI militia? Are they the same and if not which one is larger? Can they be used together or not?

Redoubt milishy are bigger, corn fed versions than the Perry militia. I have both on my painting table (John The OFM, you didn't read that).

All my stuff is single mounted, but I try to keep like manufacturers grouped together. I don't think they would look too good next to each other, but are fine on the table in seperate units.

Redoubt AWI are plain awful. As good as the Redoubt F&I War are, the AWI are terrible. Stay away.
You have been warned.

I have redoubt French and British Colonial figs. Boer War and FFL. They are bigger but if you keep them in one unit you should be alright. I like the ones I have, especially my British Sailors making up my Boer War Naval Brigade.

Can't speak for their AWI line. But I suspect the redoubts are bigger. Where do they sale Redoubt? I have not found a dealer that carried them after the Miniature Service Center stopped carrying them.

Not the best figures from Redoubt: not Brian Riglesford's figures. Try to find some to make your idea before investing sums of money

Well, I bought mine as a job lot and as far as wargaming goes, they paint up just like any other lump of alloy…

That being said, they don't look the part when paired with any but their own.

One metre away, they look fine. Two metres, and they're just another Doodle awaiting his comeuppance.

I sold Eric some really crappy Redoubt AWI figures. He wasn't drunk, and his eyes were open. It may have been during Lent or some other penitential season.

I have been told that Redoubt has thrown out those figures and re-did the line with the same sculptor as the FIW rnge. I hope so. grin

Some of the worst figures ever made.

Please heed the comments about the Redoubt AWI figures. Go with the Perry figures or Old Glory.

Which iteration of Redoubt AWI militia are you talking about?

The ones currently available are new figures probably based on the same dollies as the more recent FIW figures. They are better (IMHO) than the old range but not brilliant. There is a definite feel of the Battle Honours range about the sculpting & heft. Some of the posing (large numbers of kneeling firing line regulars) is just bizarre.

The old range, now evidently withdrawn, was rightly regarded as being poor, see for example this review.

Thomas, I was referring to the new line and not the old one which I had heard was really bad.
Der Alte Fritz, I do have the Perry and Old Glory but was looking at adding to what I currently have.
I do appreciate everyone's comments.

John;
I forgot about those. I bought a different job lot from another who's name escapes me at the moment.

Either way, they paint the same.

The best militia figures made by Redoubt are the civilians in their F&IW range; however, they are large compared to the Perry, Eureka and Conquest ranges and you would struggle to mix them, except perhaps having the odd Redoubt figure representing that one guy in the village who didn't so much buy the farm as ate it, or spent his childhood with fertilizer in his shoes.

Similarly, the excellent Indians from the Redoubt F&IW range are mostly larger than the other ranges listed above, but the kneeling figures are more compatible and could all be used as canoe crews. Incidentally, the Redoubt civilians/Indians and the more recent rangers/regulars, were by two different sculptors and the former are much better anatomically (much more natural and less chunky). The "updated" AWI range is not much of an improvement, IMO.

Disco Joe,

Well you have SM's views on the subject of the new Redoubt range and my less than enthusiastic embrace of the enterprise. Have to agree with SM on the sizing of the earler generation of the FIW figures compared to the later ones. I suspect that the sculptor of the later FIW figures may be the same person who is redoing the AWI range.

It is difficult to fathom what Redoubt's intent is with the revamped range as beyond a certain lipservice to campaign dress it is otherwise a step backwards. Itis difficult to see how the new range may recoup enough in sales to justify further development of the range.

I purchased some of the Redoubt AWI after purchasing some of their Trojan War figs (which are brilliant).
I was gutted.
Worst metal miniatures I've ever purchased.
Only good for melting down.
