… but what is a Soviet saboteur?
A commando?
Or a maquis?

Thanks in advance for your guidance and hope you like the miniature.

Looks like a scout-sapper (at least I think that's what they were called). Combat engineers trained to work behind German lines, usually with the partisans, blowing things (like railroad tracks, etc) up. Soviets wouldn't normally use a German machine pistol, as it's sound could lead to friendly fire. But behind German lines it blends in and so makes the firer harder to identify as Soviet.

Someone I read noted how the recce troops of both sides like to use the enemy SMGs (lots of pics of Soviet Scouts with MP44s and German scouts with PPsh). Maybe it also has something to do with easier to get ammo resupply if you're using the enemy weapon?

Awesome looking mini.

Though a question – why is the MP40 body painted brown?

"why is the MP40 body painted brown?"

Bakelite grips, typically black but some were brownish.

It is only the pistol grip and cheeks underneath the receiver.
