This one is pretty decent and covers those troops on the US/Mexican border.

Very interesting stuff! Those boys were real men to wear wool in Texas in the summer. Hell, even wool during a Texas spring and fall would be enough to kill a yankee!

I have a uniform from the 13th US Cav. worn in Mexico. The shirt is a wool flannel, but the jacket and trousers are cotton. The cut of the uniform is the same as that in WWI. The cotton uniforms were discontinued during WWI as there was no need for them in Europe and the sudden increase in the size of the US Army made producing two types of uniforms impractical.

Well, real men or not, pershing's soldiers didn't have much choice. Only wool, linen, cotton, or mixtures of the fabrics ( linsey-woolsey) available then. Wool can be surprisingly cool in Summer. It " breathes" better than some modern fabrics.
