"The trailer for the upcoming season of Doctor Who is out, offering a tantalizing sneak preview into the next 14 episodes, which will begin airing Aug. 25 on BBC America.

Doctor Who fans across the internet are already feverishly attempting to decode the dramatic 90-second trailer, which includes — yes — dinosaurs on a spaceship, heart-stopping Dalek sequences, and clues on the impending departure of the Doctor's companions, Amy Pond and Rory Williams (played by Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill).

The upcoming season is expected to introduce — shocker! — a new female companion for the 11th Doctor (Matt Smith). The new character will be played by British actress Jenna-Louise Coleman.

In the trailer's spine-tingling final scene, the Doctor carries Amy in his arms. She appears to be unconscious.

"Who killed all the Daleks?" demands Rory.

"Who do you think?" whispers the Doctor.

The year 2013 will mark the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who, which began airing on the BBC in November 1963"

I think you will be waiting until November, I'm afraid.. the next season will be on either side of Christmas, with the new companion coming in at the Christmas Special.

Best part of the trailer for me is "we very cross with you", that one had me laughing out loud. Can't wait for it to start!

Frankly I thought that Amy and Rory had already been given their "out" – they got married and the Doctor, following his own crisis and indeed after what he put them through, directly or indirectly, left them in peace as they started their happy life together. They very clearly see far less of him as he resumes travelling solo. This is already established – has no one been paying attention?

So I am rather surprised they are even IN the next season at all (and surprised more are surprised Amy is leaving – to me it was clearly flagposted last season – so much so that I thought she and Rory already HAD left). I really hope that rumours of Amy Pond's demise are false; given the events of laat season and their natural realistic departure it seems superflous. I think they have suffered tragedy enough already, could we let a companion have a happy ending for a change? Oi Moffat, that means you, give them a HAPPY ending!

I'm with the happy ending too.

(Sorry, someone had to. This game is great and shares core mechanics with 7TV)

I agree with Chris – Graeme Dawson's rules are temporal-riffic.

Hope they avoid getting too deep into mumbojumbo like they did last season.

Loved the trailer and can't wait for the season to start.

Also looking forward to the 50th anniversary next year.

That's a horrifying thought Willtij – given that I've watched it since the first episode :) (I was 6)

Amy Pond was really the only reason I watched the show.

Tonight is the end of the first half of the season.
