While the first one isn't CW historical it is still interesting…

1865 Cdr James Waddell of the CSS 'Shenandoah' learns that the war is over from the British bark 'Barracouta' in the Pacific, and decides to surrender in England

1956 Albert Henry Woolson, Drummer Boy, 1st Minnesota Heavy Artillery, last verifiable veteran of the Civil War, at 109 – He was also a G.A.R. member – RIP
