link "So this might be something interesting or nothing at all but as many of you now know, Solomon Kane is coming out in around 25 ‘key' cities in the US when it's released in late September." Solomon Kane is a fantastic film and anyone who enjoys
whatever this is
Black Powder Fantasy? I read some folks complain about the "canon" but this really is a fantastic film about the early career of our hero. The director had planned two more films but alas, lack of success at the box office put paid to that. Of course it didn't help that they never released it here in the States. Go Figure |

A friend described the movie as a good background story that better explains the character in the books. I still dont understand why he wandered around Africa for so long. |

I was pleasantly surprised by Kane. Being a long time REH reader I was expecting the worst. It has some cheesy bits but more was done right than wrong IMO. It knocks spots off the recent Conan film which got a worldwide release despite being rubbish from beginning to end. |

Loved the film. Totally agree Alex! |

Dang, I'm pretty sure Ames, Iowa, isn't a "key" city. |

I've got the DVD, it's excellent! |

Agree with Black Cavalier and while it is not addressed in the film, I also can not recall what he was doing wandering around Africa
unless that was the only place REH considered ripe for Lovecraftian Horrors
still would have though he would use the Americas for that what with his Westerns, Still good fun. evil cartoonest: on the linked blog the directer does say he is looking for input on locations in the US where the movie would do well. If you can get a bunch of locals interested you might have a shot

Is Scranton one of the "25 key cities"? |

Silly question, I saw it when it first came out – in Thailand of all places. Thought it was a great 'flick'. Huge entertainment, nos history worth talking about. Anyway, why was it never released in the US? |

I agree with you why wasn't it released in the US? I was looking forward to seeing it and nothing. |

Indeed why not? The info is somewhere on the blog linked above. He is also looking to drum up interest in the long overdue US release, so suggesting venues is also a good idea. The director, Michael Basset, is very accessible to fans and I am sure would answer any of your many questions if you posted them on his blog. Probably other ways to reach him but I have only used the blog. |

I'd sure like to see it. Doug |

Already have it on Blu Ray. Great fun movie, BTW
It does not follow the stories that much, but a good fun swashbuckler flick! But if it hits Sacramento, I'll go see it!

I'm looking forward to it, although I'm one of those who felt his background didn't need to be explained by anyone other than Howard – part of SK's appeal was he was a mysterious crazy mofo. He ended up in Africa, at least the first time, chasing a villian (Red Shadows); he may or may not have most of the rest of his adventures on the same trip. Moon of Skulls is a different trip (he goes to Africa to find a girl). |

It was better than the recent Conan in my opinion. Kane is supposed to have spent some time in the New World with Sir Richard Grenville. |

Why not released? Box office worldwide so far didn't surpass half of production cost – that spells zero chance of wide release. Besides, its from 2009 and we're ending the 2012 season (fall is for small and December is for Oscar contenders that are really 2013 releases, more or less – exceptions? well, duh.) |

It's a pity that Conan The Barbarian was a terrible film and got worldwide release, while Solomon Kane -- though not perfect -- was quite well-made and respected its source material. Too bad numbers have killed off the possibility of sequels. |

Does anyone know if the limited release will translate into a North America-region DVD? |

I thought Conan The Barbarian was miles ahead of the old Schwarzenegger Conan movies. Much closer to the books than that earlier slapstick trash. Jason Momoa is a lot closer to Howard's decription than the "Adulterator" ever was. I was really looking forward to Solomon Kane and think Purefoy was an excellent choice for the roll. Ironclad is one of my favorite movies. |

Purefoy was a great choice. He would have been my choice for Bond after Craig. Script was a bit of a let down unfortunately. Still, not sure why it failed so badly as it's a decent movie, certainly no worse than many others that have succeeded. |
