The fighter you can see in this dio is the Ki-84 (a.k.a Hayate, code named by the allies as "Frank"). This was one of the few Japanese fighters that could climb high enough and reach the B-29's in flight, but there were never enough of them to go around.

Another attractive diorama incorporating airplane, train and vehicles. But, those white 'bandages' surrounding the hinomaru on wings and fuselage were 'home defense' markings. They wouldn't ordinarily have been seen on aircraft in Burma, or elsewhere outside of the home islands. I think that squadron insignia on the tail is also from a well known home defense squadron. |
