All Right, I'm building for SP. I'm doing it in 15mm. THIS was no easy choice. I'll be basing my SKs, Big Men, musicians, &c., on US pennies. I have heard that some folks are using multi-bases for their line troops. I like this! 1. Given that, I assume, most "groups" are 12 men in a more historical scrap, how are you basing this? Particularly (for both foot and horse): a. Frontage and depth? b. How many men to the stand indicated in "a"? Single or double rangs? c. Are you using markers or making change as casualties occur? 2. Are you basing your dragoons singly or in groups? If the latter, my questions a-c apply. If the former, on what the heck are you basing your horses? I know I've asked a lot and am grateful for whatever answers can be supplied. Best, Jim "Cyrano" :/7) |

Hi Jim I am using 15mm for Sharpe Practice and take a slightly different approach. For big men, musicians etc., just like yourself, I use a single figure on a penny base. For ranks I base 2 figures on a 20mm by 15mm base in a single rank but count the base as a single figure for game purposes. This bulks out the units a bit so a 12 figure unit is represented by 12 x 2 figure bases (24 figs). I think this looks better for 15mm. Hope this helps! Jim |

Adding to Jim's thought – my 15mm are based the same way (all of them) so that I can do unit games in single rank or put them on magnetic sabots for 2 ranks. For Sharpe Practice that would leave an officer based with drummer for the big man. I haven't, but might consider basing a few big men individually. |

1: Jim, thanks, that's very helpful. I may still do this at 1:1 and mark casualties as I have this perverse goal to try these rules with an honest to goodness battalion on a side. What do you do for horse, particularly dragoons? 2: Max, I haven't decided myself on this, but my understanding is that there's three flavors on that: a. Play as written. b. Halve everything, including ranged weaponry c. Use centimeters instead of inches, although, it is my understanding, this creates great rage on Lard Island. This, unlike actually changing their rules, may cause them to visit your home and *shudder* drink your beer. Best, Jim "Cyrano" :/7) |

I haven't based up any cavalry yet but would probably base like the infantry in pairs on a 25mm frontage. Big men and musicians based individually. As regardes the rules and distances , I would use them as they are with no adjustments. |
