Just finished my Latin American dictator, Reymundo Ernesto Contreras for my Mandingo Wars project. President Contreras is the current strongman of the República Caribeña (Caribbean Republic) and is a fan of meddling in all matters that involve petroleum and in any way he can find to give the finger to the Yanquis. Both figures are Liberation Miniatures in 20mm scale. More pictures on my blog at: mandingowars.wordpress.com |

Reymundo is an intented pun? Because I know the Spanish name of Raimundo but never heard of Reymundo, which could mean king of the world. |

I knew someone who used to work with us named Reymundo. It is a pun because he can be called Rey Contreras for short. Contreras is a popular surname in that part of the world that means contrarian. (King Contrarian) It shouldn't be a surprise who he is based on. |

Contreras is not an uncommon name, which gives rise to what I suspect is an unintended bit of irony in the naming of this figure. The most notable/infamous Contreras that comes to my mind is Manuel Contreras, the butcher who ran DINA, Pinochet's secret police. He's currently serving several terms in prison for human rights abuses. He was also the CIA's man in Pinochet's regime. |

I assure you that the irony is quite in, as I am fluent in Spanish and my project is almost pure satire. |

"It shouldn't be a surprise who he is based on." The brassard gives it away. |
