A hard-copy ruleset can be resold easily on eBay if you don't like the rules, but PDFs are usually non-transferable. It's happened to me at times that the money I saved by buying rules (or supplements, adventures, etc) in PDF is really money wasted because I don't like what I've purcashed and it cannot be returned. How often has this happened to you? |

I've never bought one so have never regretted it. |
kiltboy | 27 Jul 2012 5:42 p.m. PST |
Never regretted it as the ones I buy are inexpensive and cost less than the loss I would take by selling on a hardback version. Added bonus I can read them at work and still look busy.. David |

I have never bought one I liked. (But I buy few and dislike the format.) |
Space Monkey | 27 Jul 2012 5:56 p.m. PST |
I haven't regretted any yet. Most of what I've purchased have been cheap and have been games I already knew a good bit about
or so cheap that they were an impulse purchase and I was just mining them for ideas anyway. |

They are cheap and I have yet to regret a purchase. I do look for reviews and personal opinions before I purchase however. |

Sometimes I might by both if available, print the pdf out scribble notes or take it to comps. The hardcover keep at home. |

I never buy PDF rules, so "never". |
Mooseworks8 | 27 Jul 2012 6:35 p.m. PST |
Never. I have purchased seventeen pdf rulebooks and supplement thus far. I am happy with each one. Five of them I have had printed and bound, the rest I printed off, placed in sheet protectors inside ring binders. I have only found one rulebook that I wanted in hardcopy vice PDF and that was the Pathfinder Core Rulebook. |
zapper | 27 Jul 2012 7:15 p.m. PST |
I'm not a fan of the format and would much rather have a hard copy, but sometimes it just isn't practical for me to buy the hard copy. I have bought PDFs, then later bought the hard copy when I could afford it, so yeah, I've regretted spending money on PDFs. |
sillypoint | 27 Jul 2012 7:33 p.m. PST |
Never, I rarely on sell rulebook, even ones with only one use/brouse. |

I've bought rules I don't like, both hard copy and pdf. But I don't return either. I probably regret the hard copy more as they take up shelfspace (and precious environmental resources, carbon footprint etc..). |
Gennorm | 28 Jul 2012 2:07 a.m. PST |
Not. There are rules I haven't bought because they're not available as a PDF. |

I think a better question would be how many times have you bought a PDF rulebook but have never played the rules. I think the responses would be different. ;-) |
The Beast Rampant | 28 Jul 2012 5:48 a.m. PST |
Who returns rules?? I have regretted it a few times, but as I wasn't out much, and even iffy rules can usually be used for something (good orbats & army lists, scenarios, etc), I didn't worry about it. At least bad PDF's don't take up space and gather actual dust! When I see PDF-produced rules (not quality printed rules that are for convenience ALSO sold as PDF's, like Sam Mustafa's) that are expensive (over $20 USD), I never bother, so haven't come to regret that. |
Sundance | 28 Jul 2012 6:12 a.m. PST |
I haven't purchased any PDF rules, so I'm good. |
SaintGermaine | 28 Jul 2012 8:34 a.m. PST |
I only regret it when the manufacturer doesn't make it layered so if I decide to print it it doesn't suck up all my colored ink and is legible. bought a few that I then when and bought the book anyway since it turned out to be a good rule set or expansion (mostly Savage Worlds stuff) |
Scorpio | 28 Jul 2012 10:05 a.m. PST |
Haven't regretted buying any so far. It's a selling point for me for new rules to also be available in PDF, so I can also reference them when I am on my computer or I've loaned the hardcopy to a friend, etc. |

I´ve bought hard copies I wish I hadn´t, but that´s never been the case with a pdf. Perhaps cost has something to do with it. But, like others here, I am not one for getting rid of rules just because I don´t like them, times and tastes change and hey, you never know! |

I was re-reading this, and I realize I wasn't clear about one thing. I've never returned rules to a store after reading them (or at all for that matter). It seems somehow wrong to do so. I have, however, bought hard copies of rules and then resold them on eBay, etc. |
