So far, all I have is the bottom half of the creature. However, I would welcome any comments or suggestions you may have.

All three sides are basically the same:

By the way, this was the initial inspiration for what I've done so far:

That is cool!

Covert Walrus26 Jul 2012 4:49 p.m. PST

Looking good so far. Are you going to make it sentient? What do you plan to do for arms/hands/tentacle analogues if so?

Redroom26 Jul 2012 5:37 p.m. PST

looks xorn'ish, very cool

28mmMan26 Jul 2012 7:23 p.m. PST

Great looking legs, knees are clean…very nice indeed.

If you are considering casting, you may want to cast now.

This way you can build up several versions without sacrificing a great start…sometimes the next half does not got the way we plan…

:)

Cacique Caribe26 Jul 2012 8:25 p.m. PST

I would love . . .

. . . for someone to cast them as a dolly, and then for them to do a contest to see what other people, beginners and experts alike, come up with (each contestant with three dollies to either do three variants of the same concept or submit three different concepts).

I think that would be a really productive and fun contest. And I would donate the green for free to that project.

But I'm not sure if any manufacturer would be interested in such a thing.

It could stand as it is.

Reminds me somewhat of the pentapods from Traveller 2300ad.

arngrimson27 Jul 2012 3:09 p.m. PST

CC Dan you could try 15mm.co.uk with their SHM range.

deviantsaint27 Jul 2012 4:07 p.m. PST

Kinda reminds me of the Puppeteers in the Ring World series. Just needs two python-like heads and it's all set.

deflatermouse27 Jul 2012 4:21 p.m. PST

Yes as arngrimson suggested maybe try 15mm with their SHM. I would be intersted in a couple.
And a 6-legged dog

SirFjodin27 Jul 2012 4:33 p.m. PST

And 6 legged crab! And your great xenofish! Your minis are awesome and must be produced in metal!

top idea from 28mm man. These are a fantastic base dollie. I cant think of upteen things I want to use then for!

28mmMan02 Aug 2012 8:11 a.m. PST

CC any headway on your tripod?

Eli Arndt02 Aug 2012 9:52 a.m. PST

Dan,

This is exactly the sort of thing that Gavin at 15mm.co.uk is looking for in the SHM line.

I know he's doesn't usually answer emails over the weekend but if you'd like I'll email him pics for you or you could do it yourself.

Guys,

A few days ago I found someone willing to add it to one of his planned molds and casting is expected in the next month or so.

Can't wait to see it in metal. And I particularly look forward to the manufacturer sending out dollies to people willing to try their hand at completing the figure, according to their own individual vision.

I suspect that most will complete the sculpt as a two-part figure.

Let's see how it goes.

Im still hoping to see that grass hopper legged SPUG look a like cast up that you posted up a few months ago.

"grass hopper legged SPUG look a like"???

Cacique Caribe06 Aug 2012 4:15 p.m. PST

I wonder how many will try to make "centaurs" like this out of the tripedal dolly:

I am planning trilateral symmetry…

I like those!

Cacique Caribe07 Aug 2012 11:52 a.m. PST

I'm sending them off to TMP's Napthyme later today or tomorrow morning, so he can add them to his next casting batch.

You'll be hearing more from him on what he'll do with the dolly of the donated green.

Can't wait to see what you guys make, using the legs as your starting point!

Dan

Cacique Caribe28 Aug 2012 8:59 p.m. PST

Napthyme tells me he has received the green and that he likes it!

Soon, you guys will have a chance to turn that tripedal dolly into things like these, or anything else your imagination can come up with:

Any news?

NEWS?

napthyme25 Oct 2012 11:38 a.m. PST

sorry everyone I got deathly sick in Sept due to allergies and I am just now getting back on my feet again. I talked to the mold maker that Mike at Rebel uses and there kinda backed up ATM, so it could be after Christmas before I can get any of my greens molded for masters.

These will definitely get done, it just might take a bit more time.

Cacique Caribe25 Oct 2012 11:42 a.m. PST

Jim,

Wow. Please take care of that.

I went into an Urgent Care center late September for sinuses and allergies and a week later was fighting pneumonia. That's the third time I ever get pneumonia and all three times it started as a bad pollen and mold allergy spell.

Thanks for the update though.

any suggestions on how to proceed now???

Cacique Caribe31 Dec 2012 3:45 a.m. PST

Wow, nice!!!

So far, on that other thread, these have said they'd be interested:

1) Kyn Ell
2) Zephyr1
3) Eli Arndt
4) Chief Lackey Rich

Awesome group.

QUESTION:

Any other sculptors out there interested in making the top half, done the way your own imagination feels the creature should look? If so, click on the link Napthyme posted above and express your thoughts!

Here's that link again:

I'm in like Flynn!

3-5 to sculpt a team/unit please.

Let me know what arrangements via paypal you need to make this happen :)

28mmMan07 Jan 2013 9:04 p.m. PST

Most of the talk shifted to the sculpting board…hoping the bump will entice a couple more interested parties to join the fun :)

28mmMan08 Jan 2013 10:54 p.m. PST

I had another thought guys.

Since there are not dozens of posts noting how much tripod types would be welcome and desired perhaps we should consider the potential of what could be done with our efforts and the commitment of making the dollie thus far.

Maybe we should come up with a common theme, to better provide the chance that the end results work together?

What I was thinking is…three versions of the same basic form.

A bestial or wild version…this could easily fit the horror, beast, or savage theme.

A primitive version…this could fit the low tech ideal…an aboriginal type that could lend towards VSF (tripods of Venus!), post apoc, or fantasy themes.

An advanced version…the same as the primitive type but with the equipment and weapons of an advance species…sci-fi themes.

If we can agree on a basic look, maybe a drawing or two to lead our efforts?

Just a thought.

:D

Kyn ell09 Jan 2013 12:30 a.m. PST

I thought the idea was how different we could make them from the same dolly? Its going to be judged like a competition so i would prefer to just come up with my own design, they're going to fit anyway as they'll have 3 legs!

Cacique Caribe09 Jan 2013 10:29 a.m. PST

Kyn ell is right. The sculptor's individual creativity potential is what we're after here.

There might be innovative designs in the minds of the participating sculptors and we would love to see how far they take it.

That's also the reason why I suggested minimal reveal of the WIP until completed and submitted.

Dan

Eli Arndt09 Jan 2013 10:38 a.m. PST

Well, I'm in, so when you get the ball rolling just shoot me an email.

I'd like to a few to work with if it's okay.

Cacique Caribe09 Jan 2013 12:50 p.m. PST

I think that Jim (Napthyme) is planning to send out 3-5 dollies to the sculptors that voice their interest on this other thread:

TMP link

I'm sure he'll be keeping everyone updated on when they get cast and sent out.

Dan

napthyme09 Jan 2013 3:44 p.m. PST

Yeap, that is the plan…. (the plan, the plan!!!)

Update: got pics from the caster, the green has survived the molding process and looks pretty good so far. Now we can find out how bendable they are for leg positioning.

Hopefully will have production molds plus copies of these in the next week or so.

Cacique Caribe09 Jan 2013 5:01 p.m. PST

Wonderful!!!

Thanks for the update.

28mmMan09 Jan 2013 10:36 p.m. PST

Roger roger!

napthyme24 Jan 2013 3:47 p.m. PST

Molds are now on there way to the caster…

28mmMan25 Jan 2013 11:21 p.m. PST

…sweet…:)

napthyme26 Jan 2013 3:25 p.m. PST

ok, looks like Dan is MIA again due to work. So I will update the sculptors list here for him. Have I missed anyone?

1) Kyn Ell
2) Zephyr1
3) Eli Arndt
4) Chief Lackey Rich
5) Army's Armies Keith
6) 28mmMan Ray
7) The Count
8) WarrenB
9) moonmin82
10) Cacique Caribe

If everyone can LMK the quantities you wanted otherwise I will limit them to 5 for the first castings as this figure is going to be hard on molds.

Cacique Caribe26 Jan 2013 8:52 p.m. PST

Excellent!
