Even if I can understand that it's quite impossible to list all the nations of the world , I am a little bit surprised about the choice of putting United Kingdom, France and Germany as european countries, forgetting other like Italy and Spain. Italy is a member of the G8 community and surely could be an interesting market also for wargaming hobbies. The exclusion of Italy seems to me not so correct also for a good evaluation of the poll results. I 'd be accepted UK alone and "rest of europe" including France and Germany because this choice would have been representative of the distribution of miniature manufacturers (for instance)..but this solution doesn't fit me. What do you think about ? |

UK, France and Germany are at least to me the three European countries with significant and/or well-known gaming/miniatures industry. Off-hand, I cannot name any Spanish or Italian companies... |

I think a trick was missed by not having a "Scandinavia". There are lots of Scandinavian websites on our sort of subjects (and Netherlander sites also for that matter). |

Corvus Belli - Spanish Mirliton - Italian |

Maybe the country selection should just have been based on the ISO list? I know that's where we get our country list from when we (in my company) poll for country. -A. |

There's Stratelibri/Nemo in Italy, as well as the Warangel (sic?) game. Isn't there a Spanish company making fantas minis--perhaps Dragon Rune...?

In Italy there is a lot of wargaming activity. Someone told there are no Italian manufacturers, but I think that Italeri, Mirliton, Testudo - to quote only three - are worldwide known. Anyway it would have been better to differentiate only between UK and Rest of Europe. Daniele |

Hey, I'm half Cornish, think how upset I am at being marginalised. :) Lighten up guys...

In Spain there is a growing wargaming activity, and about manufacturers: Corvus Belli and Fantassin (historicals), Dragon Rune (fantasy). UK - Rest of Europe would have been the right option. |
Strahearn | 15 Oct 2002 2:22 a.m. PST |
Argh, I don't know why I didn't think of Italeri, I even have a couple of their model kits neatly stacked in their boxes on top of some Halcyon stuff in this very room. :-) Of the other names, only Nemo rang a bell, so I guess I've just been neglecting my education on such matters - time to do some browsing of the manufacturer directory on TMP tonight. |

Andrea Miniatures is a Spanish Company and do amazing work. And for those who say, but they are only large scale they do 30mm romans for wargames too. Anyway 54mm+ are miniatures too. Miniatures customers are not solely wargamers. |

I'm sure that all Scots and Welsh didn't like being known as etc. either... But all of this isn't important anyway, the idea of the poll was to determine if this site was a majority US readership. And it has worked considering there is only a 51% US vote so far! |

well, I am spanish, but I can understand that there will be always someone who doesn't find his country in the poll. |

Strahearn, if you do ancients or medievals then you have to take a look at Mirliton, Testudo and Corvus Belli (check the manufacturers' listings). They are no kidding some of the best figs on the market. Must be some kind of Latin muse. Other Dave |

I'm just glad Canada got a separate listing...you never can tell with yanks. ;) |

I suspect that the polling software only allows a certain number of choices. Once this one is done, it would be interesting to have follow-up polls breaking down the various categories. |

I found it amusing to see France listed last... under "Other." Talk about "No respect.." ;-) (I'm not French, btw, but my best friend in college was. We used to tease each other mercilessly about our native lands. He'd complain about American cuisine, I'd mention mayonnaise, and that would end the argument.:-)) |
Hastrudbal | 15 Oct 2002 11:55 a.m. PST |
What is important ? Miniature companies really ? Number of people with an internet access ? Proficiency in english language ? I am sure Scandinavia would have been a better choice than France :-) |
The Lost Soul | 15 Oct 2002 12:54 p.m. PST |
Theres loads of gamers here in Scandinavia. 99% GW players unfortunately, but that does qualify... Well, in Sweden anyway, I can't speak for our fellow Scandinavian countries I'm afraid. |
The Lost Soul | 15 Oct 2002 12:56 p.m. PST |
Oh, and we do have Cell Entertainment producing both Games and minis... Also Warzone and Chronopia originated here in Sweden as RPG:s, but I have no idea where the tabletop rules and minis were made. |
Area23 | 16 Oct 2002 12:40 a.m. PST |
nothing happens in holland, historicals are unavailable through shops and GW is the market... ;) |

Please , be focused on the real target, i.e. if no (or few) importance will be given to the Countries where the wargaming hobby is growing now, no new manufacturers,no new gamers,no new opportunities will born in those Countries. It's not just a matter of italian manufacturers (btw: Italeri, Mirliton, Testudo,Nemo,Strategia & Tattica,Italwars...are some names of companies producing wargaming figures and accessories), it 's a matter of developement of the hobby. My opinion is that UK may stand alone and France with Germany should be listed under "rest of Europe", but only if it is not possible to list the different nations separately. It's not a matter of patriottism. It's a matter of reliability of statistical results. |

Parzival wrote: "I found it amusing to see France listed last... under "Other." Talk about "No respect.." ;-) - Actually, the options are listed in random order. (You always see them in the same order, but it's random on a by-reader basis.) For instance, when I view the poll, I see Mexico as last. rmaker wrote: "I suspect that the polling software only allows a certain number of choices." - It's not a software limit, but a usability limit. Some readers have told me that their browsers don't handle drop-down menus well with a large number of options. The poll results are also hard to read when there are too many options. This is why I tried to condense the world into so few selections! I'd be glad to do follow-up polls by region (anyone have a list convenient of European nations?). |
