I've been enjoying this special feature. There is something magical about a classic action/adventure flick on a hot summer night.

Pulp Era offerings yet to come:

Mon 23rd-Hurricane, a South Seas spectacle & China Seas which features Clark Gable vs. Malay type pirates. The Wreck of the Mary Deare is also pretty suitable for the period.

Mon 30th-The Land That Time Forgot, 5 Came Back & Island in the Sky.

Yeah, TCM is one of my favorite channels. Sadly, FMC has now started commercials. TCM is the last free classic movie channel. Some really great stuff. I watched Gunga Din, Robin Hood (38), Forbidden Planet and the Searchers is on later.

Thanks,

John

One of mine too,John. Also,Saturday's at noon, they've been showing the 1940's serial "The Green Hornet",with Keye Luke as Kato.

TCM just finished running the series of "Boston Blackie" flicks on saturday mornings a couple of weeks ago. I hope they'll run some of the other detective film series like "Micheal Shayne", "The Saint", "The Falcon" and "Charlie Chan" sometime soon.

Ya I too watched Gunda Din last night. What a great movie!

I watched Forbidden Planet. Gunga Din ran too late for my 4AM wakeup call, but I plan to watch my DVD version this weekend.

I watch the first part of gunga din to see that little battle scene, all the while thinking of how I'm going to do that with the pulp figure thugees.

also thinking what to use to represent the native troops. They have a very funny uniform with baggy pants and vest and fezzes. Would Civil War or French is zouaves work? maybe I could use Belgian Congo Askari. Anybody have a good idea what to use for these guys.

How many natives were there. Native soldiers? At the end the Sargent reports 12 dead and it looks like there's eight or nine alive. Does that mean there were 20 of them start.

This seems like a good game for songs of drums and shakos. Maybe the players control the British side in the game master runs the thugs.

I've always said if I were rich I'd hire Robert Osborne to live at my house and introduce all my movies in person. I guess if he couldn't be available, I'd take that upstart Ben Mankowitz in a pinch.

That sounds like a plan! TCM is one of the last great movie channels and not just for the movies. I agree that the hosts bring a lot to the table to make it even more enjoyable.

Do you guys think the younger generation is as enamored as we are with older classic movies?

There's a quote from Lauren Bacall. It goes something to the effect of a movie isn't old if you have never seen it before. Too cool. *smile*

Thanks,

John

Why would anyone boo you for liking "Citizen Kane"?

I'll do it for 6 pack and a bag of Doritos, and i'll throw in an introduction to a couple of "B" films, a cartoon or two and an "Our Gang" comedy. (-:

I vote for 'Shadow' as the host of a Saturday B-Picture/Serial matinee with cartoons, shorts and maybe even a newsreel included.

We can all meet in front of our TVs with our propeller beanies on and throw microwave popcorn at our wives and kids while we cheer at the screen.

The Shadow21 Jul 2012 6:23 p.m. PST

LOL. Thanks Bob. I'd do it too!

I am a longtime TCM fan, especially for their Sunday Night Silents. I caught "Winchester '73" the other week, enjoyed the hell out of Jimmy Stewart, a young (!) Will Geer as Wyatt Earp, Shelly Winters, John McIntyre (later of Wagon Train TV fame), Dan Dureyea as a real nut-job, a bare-chested Rock Hudson as Young Bull, and Tony Curtis billed as "Anthony Curtis" as Trooper Doan.

TCM has also given me an appreciation for many character actors, like William Bendix, Victor McLaughlin, Thomas Mitchell --Gerald O'Hara in GWTW, Uncle Billy in "It's a Wonderful Life", the Mayor in "High Noon", and Doc Boone in the 1939 (and ONLY acceptable version) of "Stagecoach".

A terrific western and the first of Stewart's movies with Anthony Mann directing.

Stewart against evil brother "Dutch Henry" played by Steven McNally, both after the "one of one thousand" Winchester '73 rifle. Dan Duryea as outlaw leader "Waco Johnny Dean" also wants the rifle and the action is practically non stop as the three of them try to take possesion of the famed firearm. Highly recommended.

Paul Muni in "I am a fugitive from a chain gang",made in the 30's."Cool hand Luke" copied parts of it,right down to raising the dump truck bed to protect against gunfire, although Paul Newman didnt get any dynamite.
