I just ordered my Saga ruleset from Architects of War. I've decided to do a Viking and a Saxon warband. First I will paint 4 point warbands then expand to 6 point warbands. I have been looking at Artizan, Black Tree, Gripping Beast, Foundry, Newline Designs, Crusader, and Renegade miniatures. All make both Vikings and Saxons in 28mm except Renegade who seem to only offer Saxons right now. In skirmish style games I prefer to not have any duplicate figures. What is your opinion about how these different miniatures will mix? I'm not as concerned about a slight difference in size since people vary quite a bit in height in real life. Do you think the sculpting styles of these companies will mix well? Also I have been looking at the Warlord and Wargames Factory plastics for Vikings and Saxons. How do these mix? I prefer metals over plastic though to be honest. Also I've decided to use Little Big Man shield transfers and would really like to try and use the same style shields and spears. Which shields would you recommend? My thought is that by using the same companies shields and the same spears that it will also help to blend the different manufacturer's miniatures better. Also is anyone playing Saga or M&T in the Southern California area? Thanks! David |

I think Gripping Beast, Crusader and Black Tree mix very well. With Cavalry you have to be a bit careful as some are cast with the saddles on the horses and some with the saddles integral to the riders. Granted Viking and Saxon probably don't have to worry about mounted. |

Hello David, There are 3 to 6 of us in Orange/LA County who are getting into the game, I'll send you all of our info if you are interested. My brother is doing Saxons and Mixing Gripping Beast plastics and Wargames Factory with no problem. I am doing Vikings with all Gripping Beast Metals and am not overly impressed with them. I just split a Gripping Beast plastic viking box with a friends because I didn't like the selection of Hearthguard in the starter set (while the models are nice they game me some very strange ones from the range), the plastics look very nice. I plan on doing an all plastic Norman army when Conquest releases thier infantry, I am thinging of kitbashing the crossbows from the Fireforge infantry set when that comes out. |

Foundry and Black Tree Design Vikings go well together. Artizan and Gripping Beast are nice figures, but a bit smaller, and in the case of GB, a bit slimmer. I use them all in my Viking army but you may be pickier than I am. BTD horses with the Saxons are giants! I am replacing them with Old Glory Scots horses and using Gripping Beast horses so the OG Scots have something to ride. Grelber |

Hello Darkoath, After some research it appears I cannot PM you unless I am a supporting member. My email address is whsjr3 at hotmail.com, please shoot me an email and we can go from there. As I said we have four in my local game group building warbands and another two I know in Pasadena. I will start doing demo games at the three game stores in Orange County once I have two demo lists finished. |
