Thanks for posting that. I just had a listen. From the description I had actually expected it to be from the Persian point of view, which would have been a pretty interesting thing. The program did not go into much detail and didn't really tell things from the Persian point of view for the most part, the ancient texts quoted were equally Eastern and Western. It is a pretty quick overview of the first millenium of Persian history in about half an hour. If you know anything at all about the Achaemenid and Sassanian Persians and the Parthians you probably know more than you will learn on this show. |

I think the gist is he/his armies destroyed their art, architecture and religion as usually happened to the vanquished..no surprise they did not like him much. The rank and file of conquering armies are not known for their benevolence no matter how much we might want to romanticize the past. Ask how anyone from any ravaged country how they view/viewed such attempts at enlightenment
it is pretty much the same. |
