Foundry Early Imperial Romans, way back when they were affordable and my highlighting technique was to dry brush everything. Those were good times. |

Oddly enough my first army was Khitan Laio. All of the guys that got me into DBA/M had asiatic armies. My first truly ancient armies were early imperial romans and Gauls. |

It's the only one I've ever owned, and it's Byzantines. Almost all Old Glory models with a few Essex. I'd love to sell them, too, since I rarely play them and don't think I'll ever paint them. |

+1 for Foundry Imperial Romans, bought way back when they were just merely expensive! |

Corvus Belli Carthaginians for DBA (also my second historicals army of any era, after 13C Teutonic Order). They've seen a lot of play over the years, but I've never felt motivated to expand them beyond DBA size. |

Essex 15mm DBA Marian Romans, which eventually expanded to an all-options WRG 7th edition horde. I saw the light, though, and eventually moved to 28mm. |

Actually it was three. I made a deal with a gent and bought his 28mm Hinchcliffe Byzantine army. However, before I got the chance to finish painting it up Chris Atkin offered to buy it. He made a trade with cash and the new Heritage 15mm Carthaginian and Republican Roman armies. He had painted up about half of each army. I made the deal and finished both armies although I still add to them with fresh Heritage units. I still own both. They were in action just a couple of weeks ago. Thanks, John |

6mm Romans and Britons, by Ros-Heroics. I bought a small box of them, beautifully painted, at a flea market in the early 90s for almost nothing, and spent three times as much money on bare lead to fill out the numbers. Earlier still I painted Arthurian 15mms, but they were really part of a Dark Ages collection rather than ancients – they might sneak in on a technicality. And, of course, I had Airfix Romans and Britons when I was ten. Everyone did. |

15mm Essex Late Romans and Sassanid Persians for WRG 6th edition. I had some 25mm minifig vikings and saxons before that but they are post 500AD though they still count as ancients to me. |
GildasFacit | 14 Jul 2012 1:30 p.m. PST |
Airfix Ancient Britons – actually the ONLY truly Ancient army I ever owned, the rest are really Early Medieval. That doesn't count a large generic force of 2mm Ancients – cos they aren't painted as specific armies. |

Airfix Romans & Britons followed after the Army by 25mm Assyrians – a mix of Lamming, Hinchliffe, and Garrison, many of which were 3-color (well, really 5) painted in 12 hours or so
then destroyed in turn 1 of my 1st WRG 5th game – a Tournament! |

Airfix Romans. Like JJ, mine fought the Ancient Britons and Robin Hood minis. Ever since 1973 I've been trying to re-create that same army, I've had them in 15mm once, and I'm now on my second version in 28mm (and soon I'll do the Aventines, too). Cheers, Simon |

15mm Thracian Armati army. It was labelled as Spartan. When I took it back to the retailer (Bayshore Hobbies in Hamilton, ON) she got me a new Spartan army & told me to keep the Thracians (thanks Rose). I painted up the Thracians but was very unimpressed with my work. I promised myself if the next army I painted (Greek Confederacy) didn't look any better I would give up on 15mms. Fortunately they did look much better, and I now own about 20 ancients armies in 15mm. Hoser |

Hundred Year Wars English, back in the day where longbows meant something, and Irregular Miniatures did not have Late Imperial Romans, with javelin, dart, HTW, shield, and ancients meant Incas c. 1500AD. Otherwise, EIR. |
